Re: HP Webcam in Windows 7

Hi Jessamarie,

Here is how to download and install software for Webcam and HP QuickLaunch.

  • Go to the top of this Forum Page to Support and Drivers
  • Enter your computer model information
  • Click on Software and Drivers
  • Select your Operating System from the drop down menu, then Click Next
  • Scroll down on that same page...

For Webcam:

Click into category Software - Multimedia

Depending on your Operating System,

You will see: YouCam OR MediaSmart Webcam

For QuickLaunch:

Click into category Software - Solutions

 Look for HP Quick Launch

  • Save both installation packages onto your computer.  Make a note of the name of the file and the location.
  • Each will be named sp*.exe – the package will most likely be located in the Downloads folder.  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.

To Set up / Check the Webcam software:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02452221&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en

I hope this helps.

Re: HP Webcam in Windows 7

I have an HP G60-635 DX windows 7 64 bit. My integrated web cam quit working randomly one day about 6 months ago. It was working just fine and I have no idea what has happened. I have tried installing you cam, I have tried uploading driver stuff. Once youcam/cyberlink was installed and I went to run it, it gave me the code 10 error saying it could not upload or something to that effect. When I go to device manager, I have no "imaging device" option. Imaging is completely gone. HELP ME! I am SO lost on what to do. My warranty is up. I tried calling HP customer service and of course they say its 15 bucks for them to help me out. Way to go for customer service!  haha - anyways, any help would be so much appreciated. Im going in circles trying to figure this stupid web cam out

Re: HP Webcam in Windows 7

Nicolle,

If this has been going on for six months, you've had time to read every webcam post on this Forum. :smileysad:

If you have read every webcam post, and you've reloaded your drivers, and you've done all your homework... well, RATS.  You know, that webcam may be dead.

I would not pay HP $15 to hear that kind of news.

If you think there 's any chance there is anything else going on, then it may be worth making that call.  There are a lot of posts here on the Forum - there are a lot of ideas here.  If nothing here has helped, it's possible that HP can help.  I would be curious whether they'd put you through the same exercises that you can read about here on our Forum for free. :smileyhappy:  ??

On the other hand, Logitec makes a very nice external Quickcam 9000.  I have an builtin Webcams (one of which I had to have repaired when the notebook was brand new). I also have an external HP KQ246AA (a couple of years old) that works very well.

It may be worth investing in an external webcam.  You could put it on your Christmas list... Smiling.

I know that is not why you posted.  I have written my own share of posts on the subject of webcams - I do wish you success!!

I hope this helps.

Re: HP Webcam in Windows 7

Thank you for your reply. I have read several posts none of which seem to be any help, which is why I made my post. I have gone to the HP website and did the trouble shoot option for web cam. My question is how come when I go to device manager there is no imaging device option? Thats what Im curious about. I have no problem getting an external webcam- I just am O.C.D. wondering if I CAN fix my webcam haha. I dont understand why it would break? I just got my computer a little over a year ago. =/ I know things happen but jeesh- its just a bummer. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Re: HP Webcam in Windows 7

[ Edited ]

Why is the Webcam Missing From the Device Manager?

The webcam is "missing" from the device manager because the system cannot detect the hardware. Your computer cannot find the webcam. You know it is there...  The computer has lost contact with the webcam - the webcam is "lost".

A common cause of webcam failure in many systems is a faulty connection; the cable may come loose at the neck near the camera or near the motherboard.   This issue can happen in new computers, too.  The manufacturing process may be at fault, or there may be room for improvement in the procedure used to install the physical webcam into the computer.

The Device Manager is in charge hardware that is connected to the computer. If the connection is lost because the device burns out or a wire comes loose, it looks the same - "device not found".  If the connection is lost because the device is not detected for any reason at all, it looks the same - the Device Manager is just not capable of telling why it cannot "see" what is not there.

I am not saying it can't be fixed. There is always a chance the webcam is just being stubborn. Sometimes, it's just a matter of kicking the driver (reinstalling) in just the right way to get it working.

I read a thread (here on the forum) the other day from someone who, in a fit of pique, slapped his display and - Voila!  the Webcam works!  I do not recommend that (neither did he), but it worked one time for a faulty, loose wire.

I hope that helps to explain it.  It doesn't help fix anything.  I'm sorry for that.
