HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft [ Edited ]

A big amen on your comments I_M_Done. 

This was my first computer purchase from HP.  I have always stayed away from HP computers due to their proprietary approach, but have always purchased HP printers and other products.  Now, years later, I took another look and bought laptop.  Now HP's total disregard for customers has not only driven me away from their computers, but all HP products.

You keep mentioning that HP promised this, promised that. HP never P-R-O-M-I-S-E-D anyone would get their upgrade right away! All statements say that selected models are "eligible" for or would get an upgrade. "Eligible" does not necessarily mean that you will get it. It means you might get it if certain conditions and/or criteria are met. Show me just ONE mention of where they said "WE PROMISE", and I'll be quiet.

Thats funny you say that. I did everything I was supposed to do to receive a free Win7 upgrade, and still have not received it. Come on HP whats the holdup here. An electronic distribution would have solved all of this. Why in the day and age of broadband connections do we need CDs sent out? You provide the customer the option of a CD for printer software, why not this upgrade?

C'mon oldpoppabird....you don't actually have to say "I promise" to make a promise.  What are we, 6 years old?  Does it count if we didn't pinky swear? Here's a definition for your reference:

1. a declaration that something will or will not be done, given, etc., by one: unkept political promises. 2. an express assurance on which expectation is to be based: promises that an enemy will not win. 3. something that has the effect of an express assurance; indication of what may be expected. 4. indication of future excellence or achievement: a writer who shows promise. 5. something that is promised.

I bought the laptop becuase, in bold, bright, shiny letters, right there by the display model, HP assured me that they would furnish a copy of Windows 7 when it was availiabe.  It is available and they have had reasonable time to ship it to me.  I do not have a copy of Windows 7. Promise broken.

So, are you really arguing that the campaign engineered by HP to evade the lag in sales while Win7 was pending was just a scam....that all of these people waiting on an upgrade were not promised a copy of Windows 7 and should just be happy with what they have?

I can see that for some reason that you are some kind of HP homer (For goodness sakes HP, say SOMETHING on this matter.  Don't let THIS guy represent!) and no amount of logic will work with you, so I will stop wasting my time and will no longer respond to your posts. Consider the above question an exercise in self development.  You need to brush up on integrity issues. Good luck with that.

The thing is...it is an electronic distribution. Avarto emails you a link and a serial key to download the upgrade. Then you get the DVD in the mail later. What their problem is, who knows. Probably have more orders to process then they counted on and it overwhelms them. I know HP will never use them again, or Dell, or anyone else.

    Actually...I do part time work for a local HP dealer...working on laptops and do the in home trouble shooting for customers. I also beta test MS software (ever since MS Bob was developed) and was on the Wndows 7 development team. I own 5 laptops...one is a Toshiba, two are HP and 2 are Dells (I get the Dells free as I am also an in home trouble shooter/technician for the past 11 years for them).

   I'm just saying...I do not patronize HP, nor Dell nor any other OEM. It just gets my goat to see people joining a forum only for the purpose of knocking down an OEM with their whining about , "where's my drivers"?; or  "My laptop is only 3 years old....do I get the free upgrade"?...C'mon.....if they would just read through the FAQ sections, they'd find just about any answer they're looking for, instead of asking questions that are already answered many times over.

I have installed Windows 7 home premium 64 bit on my DV9653CL notebook computer. It is a DV9500 series notebook.

I am looking for Windows 7 64 bit drivers for the Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS video card and any other drivers that will help my notebook be more useful.

I upgraded from Vista 32 bit.

Hey RJJB:

      If you're talking about upgrading a Pavilion ZV6005us then you have to install the 32 bit version! Since I was upgrading my wife's hard drive also I picked a WD Scorpio Blue its a 160 gig 5400 RPM hard drive with a 8 meg cache. I also upgraded my ram to 2 gig to do this I changed both the internal and external ram. It's always best to buy exactly the same type of ram.

      When you finish your Windows 7 install you should have sound if not then just download the 32 bit driver for Windows XP, that's it, you should be good to go after that!
