Hey Clay:
Nice laptop! If you install Windows 7 64 bit it should put in the correct video driver automatically, that thing should fly!

Hey RJJB:
I first tried the 64 bit version it was working except for the Audio, and naturally the Audio panel underneath the touch pad didn't work either!
After trying all the audio drivers I could find I then tried the 32 bit Version of Windows it worked.
If you really want, you could try to find out what audio chip Hp put in and look up the specs I bet it has a 32 bit processor, that's why the Audio drivers didn't work!

Hi, I've just done a clean install of Win7 Home Premium on my DV6606TX previously running Vista Home Premium. Generally very happy, much better performance (though it couldn't have been worse than Vista!). Most apps work fine, some had a few issues which were sorted. Like some others here, webcam has no shortcut but works through skype or messenger. Main problem now is the fingerprint sensor. I see many others had same issue, apologies for bringing it up again, but I couldn't find the prefect solution, at least for my model. There are numerous suggestions such as Digital Persona or Authentec. I actually tried out Validity Sensor Driver (SP45050) and AuthenTec Fingerprint Driver (SP37812) but these don't work for me. Called HP but they were not very helpful ("This model is not supported for Win7!"). So could anyone kindly recommend a good solution for me. I had Bioscrypt VeriSoft Access Manager before and backed up my identity, but this is not compatible with Win7 so now all passwords etc. are lost.
This is the main issue, another is the Broadcomm Bluetooth software. I downloaded this and on the site (http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.p
If anyone can also recommend a solution regarding other HP software that would be very helpful. Thanks

i am currently using vista 64bit on a pavilion dv3, and will later be upgrading to windows 7
i am currently using zonealarm firewall. nothing really wrong with it (except that windows security doesn't detect it - maybe cause it is 32bit?) is zonealarm best? is there another highly touted app?
can anyone recommend a good software firewall? i am open to suggestions for both free and paid sw.
thanks in advance
ps. not a high priority but would like to be able to let d-link shareport pass through the firewall

Uninstall your security software and then download and install "Microsoft Security Essentials", it is free and works great (Google it). I have installed it on 3 of my computers and very happy with it. If you don't like it, install Avast Home Edition, it is free and works well. I had it before, then replaced it with Microsoft Security. Remember, you can NOT run both at the same time.
Good luck.

I run the Avast Home Edition anti-virus, but have no experience with their firewall - didn't even know they had a home edition firewall.

PC/MS says trust me!
I sorry I just love that Mac Commercial!
What would surprise me, and impress me was if HP said that they would support all the Laptops bought within the last five years that are capable of running Windows 7! To me that would be the actions of a responsible Corporation, but to have a Laptop capable of running Windows 7 and have it not supported because of greed is unacceptable.

Boy Iam right up there with you. They should help you when your computer is at least 4 years old. That may be old to them but when it cost almost $2000 to buy it is going to have to be a lot older than that for me to replace.
