I could not agree with you more. I know about the 64bit being offered, it even shows it on their site, but I was thinking maybe.. I plan to attempt another call then my laptop is going back I will get a Dell, rarely had a problem with them. I have liked HP's since getting ride of my Packard Bell and never had a problem with their machines, but if they are not standing behind their word on this, I can only imagine if I ever need assistance what it will be like. I was on the phone yesterday for over an hour before they said nope it was not covered.
I have met all their criteria, I have a D4 Notebook that was purchased on the 28th at a local store.
Thanks for the feed back, wish you luck.

Yeah, I'm interested.... Funny you should say it that way..... lol.....
I have the same comp., bought almost a month ago... Staples rep. had told me he recommended me going home and installing Win 7 first thing.... that I wouldn't regret it.... I told him I had already thought of doing it..... But after getting home, I decided to give Vista a try first, give it a chance.... It's okay, I actually like it for the most part, getting used to the differences from XP, I'm actually liking all the "nerdy" stuff that comes with it (all the new 'tweaks' and fun stuff, heheh...) ... but I'm encountering problems....
2 BSODs eleven days apart, last was two days ago and then this morning it said it couldn't load my user name and password (I don't have it set for a password, I just go straight to windows?!?.... whatever....) and just left me sitting here looking at a 'black' screen with a mouse pointer that wouldn't move!?!.... .... I had to just shut down... wait a moment... and pray that when I powered up that I'd get in.... I did... no problem.... Ugh... What will tomorrow bring??....
My Avast! doesn't show up as working in security center, (I even reinstalled... still doesn't... but three XP machines do... but at least it is updating and I've done a total of 3 scans, all show clean... but I can't figure out Security Center showing Avast as 'off'...)
I can't get my wireless to get the signal to/from the dsl router.... ethernet works upon hook up.... no problems there at least... .... hmm let's see what else has there been....
OH, yeh, 'one' GOOD thing I found.... my 'wireless mouse' now works on this machine with Vista!!!.... wouldn't work on my last laptop or desktop?! (USB ports on both machines worked fine, a 'wired' mouse plugged in worked!, as did my compact flash reader and a printer.... so... almost threw it away... but 40.00?!.... hmmm, instead I kept it, but wasn't sure why...... (last laptop got 'fried' by lightning while I was typing.... o_O....!!!)..... So my mouse now works and is now a-okay.... cool.... but weird....
Anyways... I had just wondered this morning whether to go ahead and try Win 7... but I didn't know if it would have problems with this machine or not, or if 'possibly' it would work just fine and 'fix' my problems?!.... Goodness knows, I don't want more to have to figure out.... I haven't been able to figure out if my problems have been 'Vista' problems... or hardware of which Staples would take care of that with the warranty...
I know years ago that many people 'grumbled' awfully about the problems 'upgrading' to Windows 95 (yeah, anyone remember that?)... but ours went flawlessly... really enjoyed it... and then the upgrade to 98 then to XP.... never any problems.... but this time I've been 'chicken' to do it?.... I think I'm getting old, LOL....
Someone talk me into this?!.... I had started to just get another Win XP laptop but 'finally' just thought I'd go and try Vista which would get me used to the newer OS for moving into Win 7 next year... but now I'm wishing I had went the XP route... some days,... other days, I like Vista just fine..... So.... is downloading Win 7 the answer for me?
Anyone? I'm open to all thoughts... both sides of the coin...

My avast won't run in Vista, but it does fine in Win7. I have a few other programs that wouldn't run in Vista, but they are running fine now since I did a clean install of Win7 R/C. I spent 3 weeks with Microsoft support trying to get the security updates to install and we never did get it fixed. It would install all the other updates. I finally quit trying to get all the bugs out and dumped it.
I'm looking forward to getting the Win7 upgrade when it get released. Meanwhile I'm happy with the R/C version.

The following link, and its links, can direct you to the latest drivers and software updates for your computer...
Check out "downloads" link near the top of the page, and "Windows 7 Compatability Center" on the bottom left:

Pse can someone help?
I recently installed Windows 7 on my DV6000.
It seemed to work okay until today my sound didn't work.
I have decided to rather restore the system back to it's original state using windows recovery, but on the bootup, even though I press F11, windows 7 boots up and does not allow me to recover.
Pse can someone offer advice asap.
Thanks
