Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Sorry for the mstype, but I meant to say that Win 7  DOES NOT run well on my HPg50, and that it has the latetest updates. The Board has no function to allow editing of your own messages. The computer does not shutdown properly, Windows Update only works sometimes, notifcation icocns come and go with every reboot, installs of 3rdparty apps hang and take forever to install, etc.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Anyone gotten QuickPlay to work properly under Windows 7?

I've got a DV7-1020US upgraded in-place to Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate).....Quick Play hangs at "loading" on a blue ray, loses tool bar items when trying to play a DVD...loses mouse focus.   half the time, can't find the TV tuner.

On both Vista x64 and Windows 7, Quick Play (3.7.6310) keep saying a newer version of the software is avaialble, but it always then attempts to download the same file from the website.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I have a Pavilion dv6205us laptop, that I purchased new (2 days before Vista was released) with Vista factory installed. I immediately downgraded to Windows XP Media Center, where it has been running superbly ever since. I recently upgraded the 80 GB hard drive to a 320 GB drive, so I can dual boot with Windows 7. The Win 7 OS went in smoothly, and after tweaking the registry a little, it boots 18 seconds sooner then XP. Driver issues???? None what so ever! I used the Win 7 drivers, then went online to the Windows upgrade site, where Microsoft found any needed driver upgrades for me. I gotta say....Windows 7 is a superior operating system. It boots faster then XP (with 2 GB of memory), I have no driver issues or compatability issues with older programs, and well....it's just great overall. I just can't figure out though, is why do so many people out there having issues installing it...even on laptops that are the same model as mine? All it takes is patience and to stop messing with the innards all the time.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I think the problems some have with Windows 7 are simply due to the fact that their hardware isn't (yet?) supported.  I tried the RC on and old Pavilion ze4800, and the network hardware was simply not supported.  I also put it on a Dell Mini 9, and it worked amazingly well.  If you're trying to install Windows 7 RC1 on anything other than the most recent notebooks, you'll likely have problems.

As I use my new notbook is for work, I plan to wait until the official release.  It is still a beta after all, and as well as it seems to work, there are still chances of issues.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I would expect Win 7 to not run reliably on older hardware, but I ONLY bought my laptop a little over a month ago, AFTER I had learned what the min requirements where for Win 7. My hope is they will get it right out of the gate, and note screw us untiul after there is a massive outcry like Vista.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Update on Quick Play....

before I did the in-place upgrade to Win 7, I had used Norton's Save and Restore 2 to image the disk.    I reverted to Vista Home Premium (x64) and immediately re-tried the BluRay disk...worked fine as did any DVD I tried.

I've got 2 320 GB HD's in my DV7, so I'm going to clean one off and install Win 7 in a dual boot configuration on the 2nd HD.    That'll give me a better comparison between the two.   Other than the Quick Play issue (and I can play DVD is Windows Media Center under Win 7, just not BluRay's) I found Win 7 faster, and in general better than Vista.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

You have to do a clean (fresh) install if you have XP in it, or running on a FAT32 file system.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

You will definately get the upgrade. I was at HP's  campusoffice complex  in Bellevue, Washington yesterday, asking similar questions. Most machines that will be sold in that time frame, are already marked on the box regarding a free upgrade to Windows 7, and in stock, ready to go.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Is anyone else having problems getting the actual kit ordered?  When prompted for the serial number and product number, the serial number is accepted but the product number (NL181AV) is rejected.  I have looked at all the packaging for an extended #??? suffix to add but it simply does not exist.  Model is a Pavilion dv2z-1100 CTO.  Really irritating since this should be an extremely simple process.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

In spite of the other hoops I had to jump through, this part worked pretty well for me.  I use the info as provided by the HP system info tool, and it was accepted.  Is this were you're getting the product number?
