Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Yep, I've checked that too, along with the box upc and the tag on the bottom of the laptop.  All give me the same product number (NL181AV).  No #??? suffix apparent anywhere.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

And the update on the update....

Doing a clean install of Win 7 and then installing QP...and it still does not work.

I presume HP will update Quick Play soon before or after Win 7 goes public.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I have the same problem about the product number. The product number is the same in my system info, bios, order history, and package slip....but is different on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop. I have a DV3T. I contacted the people who do the Win7 program and they are currenly working on the problem. I should be hearing from them in a few days.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

HPTechnician, then why does Win 7 run like c**p on my G50-133us?  The RC runs fine on my 3 yr old Acer, but not on this 2 month old laptop.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

For those folks in this thread who have purchased their PC on June 26th or thereafter and are having trouble getting through the ordering process at the Arvato web site... contact ARVATO

Here are the qualifiaction details from the site and the FAQ....

All new HP Pavilion, HP TouchSmart, HP HDX, HP G Series and Compaq Presario Notebook PCs sold between June 26, 2009 and January 31, 2010 with an eligible operating system -- Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Ultimate, or Windows Vista Business -- are eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program from HP.

All new HP Pavilion, HP TouchSmart and Compaq Presario Desktop PCs sold between June 26, 2009 and January 31, 2010 with an eligible operating system -- Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Ultimate, or Windows Vista Business -- are eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program from HP.

How do I know if my HP computer is eligible for this program?

An eligible computer must meet all of the following criteria*:

Your HP computer came installed with Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista

Business, or Windows Vista Ultimate.

Your HP computer was purchased with Windows Vista Business or Windows Vista Ultimate

downgrade by the HP factory to Windows XP Professional custom installed

Your HP computer was purchased between June 26, 2009 and January 31, 2010. If you

purchased your system from an online retailer such as HP Home and Home Office Store,

the eligible date is the shipment date, not the date you placed an order.

You be able to show proof of purchase (sales receipt, invoice, or packing receipt that

clearly states the vendor and date).

*Systems may require upgraded and/or separately purchased hardware and/or a DVD drive to

install the Windows 7 software and take full advantage of Windows 7 functionality. See Microsoft

Windows 7 site, www.windows7.com for details.

Is anyone else having problems getting the actual kit ordered?  When prompted for the serial number and product number, the serial number is accepted but the product number (NL181AV) is rejected.  I have looked at all the packaging for an extended #??? suffix to add but it simply does not exist.  Model is a Pavilion dv2z-1100 CTO.  Really irritating since this should be an extremely simple process.

Hi Silmaril,

There was a problem with some notebook product numbers ending in "AV". The update has been made, but may take a few more days to go live.

Please private message me next Wednesday if your number is still not accepted.

I have been trying to do that.  My last reply from ARVATO was "

you will be notified thru email within 5 business days

"

I bought my Compaq Presario notebook on 7/7, but am not able to register for the upgrade.  5+ days have come and gone and no reply, yet.

Now who do I contact?

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

If Arvato is late in replying to you as they promised, you can call them and discuss the matter. However, as Bryan_N has replied, they are still obviously working through some technical issues.

Also, since MS has announced they are planning on releasing Windows 7 on October 22nd, you have plenty of time. I'm not trying to make excuses here - just an observation to consider.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I just installed Windows 7 RC on the HP HDX18t Premium Series Notebook that I just purchased, And it seems to be working just fine.  The only problem that I had was trying to install the HP Software.  It kept telling me that it wouldn't install on this operating system.  I installed it all without any HP software and found drivers elsewhere.  But there is still some of the HP software that I would like to use, but I guess that I will have to wait until October or whenever HP updates their software.  All the other software that I installed works perfectly.  Has anyone else had that problem?  If not, what am I doing wrong?
