Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I have the same problem.  I bought mine on June 8th from the HP Store.  If I had known that I would get an upgrade if I had waited a couple of weeks, I would have.  I guess that's my fault.  But it doesn't seem right.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

RasterBlaster, I think your observation misses the point, no one should have to go through this kind of crap when promised that, if we buy a new computer from HP, we will get a free upgrade to windows 7.  Of course we have to buy it between June 26th and January 2010 and we have to have eligible units, which I think most of the people upset right now, do.

It ridiculous to be told three times that you will hear within 5 business days, well that has come and gone for me and I am sick of hearing it.  I have been very nice to the Arvato people that I have contacted about this, but nothing seems to be getting done since I and many others, still have this problem.  I ordered my HDX 18t on June 27, had it built on July 7th, it shipped on July 8th, I received it on July 10th and I have been having problems with trying to order windows 7 upgrade from HP since.

As for Bryan stating that they are still working through the technical issues and that they just updated the units with product numbers ending in AV, well it still doesn't work for those units and it has been four days since he posted that.  MY product number is NV148AV and that is the entire product number as stated on the label on the bottom of my laptop and in my system information.  I wonder if anything will be done about this.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

The problems people are having illustrates that HP doesn't understand CUSTOMER SERVICE; they are to focused, as are many BIG companies are their profit for this quarter, and not on REPEAT Bushiness. I had this problem with ACER 3 yrs ago, and I will NEVER buy another Acer product. Having somebody paid to apologize for a problem is NOT Customer Service. Having someone who speaks your language natively, and  works to correct it, WITHOUT transfering you call 6 times is. I'm returning my HP; DELL is looking real good right now.

I agree gjbnh and I am thinking about doing the same.  This is beyond ridiculous.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Major Update:

After emailing the CEO of HP via the HP website, HP called today. I dealt with just 2 ENGLSIH speaking people about my need for recovery disks. They are overnighting them to me! Maybe they are getting the message after all. Maybe by the time of my next laptop purchase, HP will be in the running.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Glad to read gjbnh that you will be taken care of, about time.  Too bad it took an e-mail to the CEO of HP for anything to happen.  Maybe I should do the same.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Part of the problem is that these large companies are run by shareholders, whose ONLY focus is this quarter's profits. LEGALLY, they are bound by LAW to make a profit, and make it NOW. (Guess who passed THAT law) When a company is self-owned, it does not have this problem. They can affford to think long termm and not short term. The real problem is the system.  And they call it progress, sigh....

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

One thing I do have to give HP props for is the quickness and great service I did receive for this new HDX 18t notebook I recently purchased (June 27th, built July7th, shipped July 8th, received July 10th) and had to send back to them for repair.  They put a old or faulty RTC CMOS battery in my HDX 18t and it kept losing power when I shut off my notebook and I would lose BIOS settings and have to re-enter the correct time and date and power on password every day when I first turned on my notebook.

Too bad the same excellent service couldn't be done with the HP windows 7 upgrade option.  I guess it's because they are giving it away free and you are not paying for it is why or maybe it's all that third party's fault, either way so far that service is terrible and makes me want to return this new notebook I purchased.  The free windows 7 upgrade from Hp is one reason why I purchased this HDX 18t notebook.
