Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I have the same problem. I bought mine on June 23th of May from the HP Store. If I had known that I would get an upgrade if I had waited a couple of weeks, I would have. I guess that's NOT my fault. But it doesn't seem right.

Its the duty of the HP to advt. at the beginnig of the year 2009, that if somebody purchases HP PCs with in these date range, if they gonna plan this thing!

Moreover, whats the significance of these dates 26 - June 2009  to 15 - March -2010

What if my PC is capable and satisfies all other things except the Date Criteria ?

Thanks,

ErSehmi

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

I understand everyones fustration on the free upgrade. Many of us bought our systems on sale as to get the best deal as we each saw it. Few of us bought because our old system just died. And lets face it, HP is here to make money. What they should have done is offered discounted upgrades to Win 7 for up to, oh let's say 2 months before the specified start dateof the free update. It would minimize the fustration a bit, create future repeat bussines, Since the Ave cost of Windows is about $25 for them, they would still make money, AND create happy customers.

Oh wait, that is far looking thinkg....never mind :smileyhappy:

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Hello,

I just installed Win 7 RC on my tx2.  I know I'm eligible for the upgrade. Will I have to restore my computer to the original config before upgrading to the real version?

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

My understanding is that you WILL be able to go from the RC to RTM, but it is REALLY not a good idea. The RC is Ultimate version, and unless you install the Ultimate RTM, you may really have MAJOR problems. Also MS is saying conflicting things about this very subject. The long standing wisdom on this is  to do a Clean install. Fewer problems.

You see...this is why I am always so reluctant to install a new OS. Especially a new WIN OS. I always like to wait until a couple of service packs have been released. I also don't like the way you are forced to upgrade everything you own and use just to be compatible with the new OS? For instance the last HP printer I used for my home based business which was Desktop Publishing & brochure printing did not work with the version of XP that I installed. I had to update the SP and then make usure that I had the newest drivers form HP. Eventually I got it working but it was a hassle.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

In defense of MS, they did themselves a lot of good by releasing the RC. From the dozens of Win 7 Forums I monitor it is obvious that most have a good experience , with few bumps with Win7. This Hp G50 didn't fair so well. With the RC so close to the finished product, it enabled people to try BEFORE they buy. I would try goggling your various hardwares to see if the manufactures have release any Win 7 drivers. You could always try the RC, AFTER imaging you harddrive to an external drive or network server. That will tell you what need to know.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

The product key is what dtermines what features (Vista or Win 7 'version') are turned on or not.    The RC product key was for Ultimate, but if you upgrade the RC to the final product.....your 'new' product key will take precedence and your version will then 'match'.    The biggest thing, obviously, presuming you wish to upgrade rather than clean install (and clean install is a better way to go...but not the only way to go) is bitlocker.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

After saying I would wait until the final gold version, I broke down and installed RC1 on my DV4-1220US.  The same machine I almost returned due to feeling a bit burned by having purchased it one day before the upgrarde to Win 7 was offfered.  Thankfully, the good folks at Conns took care of me.

RC1 runs like a dream on this machine.  Yes, quickplay isn't yet supported, but this is still technically a beta OS after all.  I'm sure that will change once the gold version is out.  It's really amazing to me how much quicker and smooter than Vista it is.  I added a  4 gig class 6 SDHC card as a readyboost device.  This thing now boots in not much more than a minute.

While I've found hp support to have issues, I have become fond of the machine. Not perfect of course, but it's a really nice lil' notebook.  Especially for the money.

Re: HP and Windows 7 from Microsoft

Well after fixing my own heat problems in my dv2845se with a little buffing and AS5 now I run the advisor to see if I can uppgrade to Windows 7 and everything except this passed. Looks like I just can't win.

NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller               Not compatible                   This device isn't compatible with Windows 7.

There were other issues but updates would have resolved them. Anyone wanna buy a good perfect condition dv2845se in great condition with 4 gig memory and all the bells and switches?????
