Help Pavillion dv1000 wont start

I tried replacing the ac power cord.  Then I tried removing and replacing the memory.  Tried using just the power cord.  Nothing seems to work.  The old power cord was bad I am sure.  I could wiggle it around and get power out of it, but now I get nothing.  Please help.  I am a disabled mother writing a book and all my notes and many pics of my kids are on this computer.

Power supply may have went on the laptop. It has happened to me before on some Presario laptops too. Only thing you can do is remove the hard drive, and take it to your local computer retailer, they may be able to get files out of it.

If you still have warranty, you can e-mail HP and see if they can replace the power supply.

HP Pavilion m8430F/ C2Q 6600 2.4Ghz / 4GB DDR2 RAM / 750GB SATAII HD / Samsung DVDRW DL / LG DVDRW DL

HP G60-126CA / AMD Athlon QL-60 1.9Ghz / 4GB DDR2 RAM / 250GB SATA HD / LG DVDRW DL

HP Vectra / Celeron 333Mhz / 128MB SD RAM / 30GB HD

Tall_Dude:
->
Notebooks/Laptops do not have internal power supplies!  The power supply is the large "brick" you see on the AC Adapter/Power Cord.

DoveLady1962:
-> Most likely, you have a failed motherboard or damaged DC jack that needs to be repaired/replaced.  You'll need to take it to a service center.

Well now I'm confused.  But that's nothing new lol.  Is it expensive to replace the dc jack or the mothrboard.  I am disabled and on a very limited income.

Re: Help Pavillion dv1000 wont start

If you're out of warranty (OOW), then yes - it's very expensive.

Based on your model...you're out of warranty unless you bought an extended warranty somewhere.  You might be able to find a local shop/technician that could diagnose it for you and maybe re-solder the DC Jack if that's the problem...otherwise you'd be better off buying a new low-end notebook.

Thank you so much for the advice, and it is out of warranty.  It was given to me as a refurbished model.
