Re: Help for downgrading my compaq presario cq40-109tu..

I'm not in the same impression as you for Vista, in some points, I found VISTA has its own advantages.

Since your model was built for VISTA, some of the functions may not work i.e brightness control (Fn +F7 or F8)

However, you are not alone, many CQ40 has downgraded their notebook.

If you wish for XP drivers try the following steps.

_____

Make your Vista Recovery cd/dvd if you haven't yet, found out here

Your model needs ICH9 sata driver to be sliptreamed in XP CD installer. If you did it right, you'll pass BSOD error.

Use Nlite to sliptream ICH9 sata driver.
A good guide to sliptream sata driver, here

Note: do NOT use sata driver from that guide, your sata driver is ICH9 given below.

ICH9 sata driver,

The driver is located in iaAHCI.inf and is called ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, here

Nlite download, here

Some suggestions to avoid problems while installing XP:

1. Try NOT slipstream all of sata drivers, use only ICH9 --> ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller

2. Use XP-SP2, a lot more easy to use since many of XP drivers were built based on XP-SP2.

3. Burn XP installer slowly and not using the maximum speed, sometimes it create errors

4. Choose a reputable CD media, not the cheap one.

Installing Audio was the most difficult part, since BIOS incompatibility.

Please update your BIOS before installing MS-UAA, at least to F.12, here

F.24 is the latest BIOS up to this date.

ENE CIR Receiver (your Vista driver), here

or if it does not work try Vista driver verified from Intel, here

ALPS Touchpad Driver, here

.Net Framework(required before HP Quick Launch Buttons), here

HP Quick Lauch Buttons, here

If you had Bluetooth, here

If you had for 7 unknown devices (buttons drivers), here

Do manual installation

Go to device manager, right click unknown device,

Choose to update driver, No to connect,

Choose install from a list or specific location, Don't search, Have disk,

Browse to the location of machine.inf.

Do it for the rest of unknown devices

Good luck

Re: Still have problems.

The corrupted files is related to unperfect download process.

Try downloading above drivers again.

Bro all of the drivers works fine I have a question about the MS-UAA I think it does not start its set up when I try to enter set up again it will initialized but then nothing happens no set up window is coming out. Also I already upgrade my bios to f24. I also first install d chipset before anything else and got though everything except for the audio codec. When I try to install it, it looks for the device or something that it cannot detect it., also the net frame work seems not functioning I downloaded it for the 2nd time got the same error(low disc space/corrupted) can you help me with this last problem of mine. Thanks bro you realy helped me alot hope you reply to this soon.,Godbless!

Re: Got it and it but only problem is the sound

Please confirm the installation of MS-UAA by checking in Device Manager under System Devices to see if MS UAA installed properly.

There should be a listing for Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.

If not, you should have a PCI with yellow!.
Right click it and Update Driver,
No to Connect, No to Search and last Install Automatically.

IDT sound drivers requires MS-UAA installed properly.

I just noticed SP39671 has been deleted from HP ftp site.I dont know why.

SP39671.exe has been known running well in XP, I'll update my first post for alternative download from mediafire, here

If you wish to try some new drivers of IDT sound chip that has reported working in XP, try:

1. sp41398, here

2. sp41693, here

If you found my post was useful, please say thanks with Kudos and if it solve your problem, please assign this thread as a solve thread.

It would help other to find this thread.

Good luck

Re: Help for downgrading my compaq presario cq40-109tu..

    Rakhmad,

I read some of your advive and found it informative. Hope you may be able to point me

in the right direction.

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to the internals… Here is may problem.

I bought the Compaq Presario CQ60-210US Notebook PC which has the Vista 64 OS.

I tried loading some software and the system denied me with an error stating

"...loading 32 bit... on 64 bit is forbidden". My question is, can I remove the

Vista 64 and add the XP 32 OS without any issues? I'm hearing conflicting stories.

I don't want to dump too much more money into this...

Thanks for any assistance.

Re: finaly it worked!

Froznheart

Kudos for reporting back.

Glad I can help you on XP installation.

BTW, which driver of IDT that work for your model?

The info would be useful to help others.
