Help needed installing Windows XP

I am trying to install windows XP on my computer, but when it gets around 58% on the part where it copies files to the windows installation folder its keeps comming up with the errer: " The file setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid windows XP system image." Even though the CD worked correctly many times before i went and bought a new CD and a new hard drive yet i keep getting the same error over and over agian. Any suggestions please!

My computer is a compaq presario m2000 notebook PC.

Its all part of a plan... I just don't know what it is yet!

Re: Help needed installing Windows XP

Glad to here it worked out. Isn't microsoft great with their messages that really do not point to the real problem?

I am confused, after the hard drive to my older laptop was replaced, I bought the Windows XP Home Edition System Cd Roms/DVD's, I put in the XP system cd, it completed and then a window popped up asking , 'type in the file path, for sp1, but, the cd has sp2 already on it, so, how in the world do I fix this? how can I get sp1 back in the system, is there a cd for sp1 that I need? I can't put the laptop back online/internet until I figure this out.

So, if there is any oone who knows how I need to proceed, or what I need to ,"type in the file path", PLEASE REPLY ASAP, you can email me if you wish: [text removed for privacy], Thnx
