@1BigTom75

Try tapping away at the F11 key immediately after powering on.This should boot into Recovery Manager to reinstall.

Re: How do I RESTORE my system to the original factory settings

I have a similar problem. I formatted my windows vista 64bit touchsmart tx2 notebook some time ago with windows vista 32bit and now i want to revert to the factory settings using recovery partition. Each time i turn on the pc it displays two boot options Boot from 1) Windows vista Home premium 2) HP recovery manager. The hp recovery manager doesn't boot anyways so i use windows vista and try to get to recovery manager but it tells me that recovery partition doesn't exist while its actually there. I also tried disk management thing but Mark disc as Active wasn't highlighted so i couldn't click on it. Pls somebody help, this recovery partition is my only hope cos i can't get hp recovery discs. Thanks for your help.

Try>>

1.Right-click on "Computer" icon and select manage.
2.This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
3.On the left side of the MMC, click on "Disk Management" and it will show you all of the partitions.
4.Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."
5.When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Reboot and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager (without pressing F11).

Once i changed the settings and restarted the system it came back with BOOTMGR is missing. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. After that it caught in a loop. Anybody knows how to get out of that one?

I had similar issue, it would appear that recovery is toast and only option now is to get recovery discs.

Anyways, here's my solution:

1. Download System rescue CD (other Linux Live CD distribution may also work)

2. Use Unetbootin (or some other software) to burn it to CD, DVD or USB drive

3. Insert it in your laptop, boot it

4a. Some computers will automaticaly boot from external media

4b. Hit esc (or whatever it tells you to) to get to boot menu and find option to select what to boot

5. Once you boot your CD/DVD/USB you should see a menu, if you get copyright info, just start over

6. In the menu select Super grub disk use option to find OS

7. Select OS it finds to boot it

8.  Once you get back into your system, go to disk managment and set system partition active
