Hello, I have a Presario C700 (C770 US) and am trying to boot from an external HD through the USB. I am using the stock Windows Vista (service pack 2) 32 bit that the machine shipped with. I have tried it with the internal HD removed and with it installed. It seems to recognize the HD, but will not boot. Are there command prompt drivers for the USB that I am missing? I did set the boot order in BIOS so that USB is first. Still no luck. Thanks for your help!

Booting Windows from a usb drive isn't so simple. For example:
