How do I recover my system from hard drive partition?

Hello everyone,

I have an HP Pavilion dv8000 notebook (windows XP Media center Ed) that apparently has a virus that keeps it in a reboot loop. When I start the computer, first the black screen asks me whether I want to start windows normally, load the last good configuration, safe mode, etc…
Any of these options lead me to the "blue screen of death" that stays on for less than 1 second, so I cannot really tell you what the error message is. After this, the computer reboots and the cycle starts over again.

I tried to use the recovery console from my XP CD and then do a system restore, but the problem is that my system restore was off…

I also tried pressing f11 on reboot, but that only brings me to a light blue screen (not screen of death) with a mouse cursor and nothing else, like it does not fully loads. Can anybody please tell me how I can recover my data?

Hi there,

            Sounds like to me you have a batch Virus Which is created in notepad by very novis users. the blue screen you are encountering and do not have enough tim3e to read is the Windows has encountage an error and has shutdown to prevent damage . soon as it restarts you can either go into safe mode by  restarting and taping F8 repeatedly. and clicking run and typing in msconfig this will bring up a box click startup and it will be  named something stupid either what it was called an an un-known manafacture. siply click that and apply and restart . should be completely done . If that does not work restart and repeatedly pressF1 untill it comes up with System Recovery you will have to reboot your whole comp and will loose all saved data . sorry about this . if you need more assistance please feel free to pm me
