1.
You need to install .Net Framework 2.0 before graphic driver. You may download it from here (without it ATI Catalyst software will not work correctly).
2.
Download driver from here.
3.
Extract this file which you already downloaded in point 2 with 7-zip(free) or WinRar (default path is C:\sp45701).
4.
Go to:
Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Devices Manager
click with right button of Your mouse on ' Video Controller (compatible with VGA) ' with yellow exclamation mark (
) and choose properties. Then go to ' Details ' tab and use the dropdown selector to choose Hardware Ids. Paste this informations into notepad file.
Example of Hardware ID for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 is posted below:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9480&SUBSYS_3624103C
where:
- VEN - is unique Vendor ID (in our example 1002 and it's always the same for ATI products)
- DEV - is unique Device ID (in our example 9480 and it's always the same for HD 4650 graphic model)
5.
Now we will edit three files in two different paths:
- C:\sp45701\Driver\XP_INF\
- C:\sp45701\Driver\
Two files have the same name - CX_*****.inf (where ' * ' are sequence of numbers), but inside them there are hiden completely different informations.
Third file is INSTALL.ini.
Below you will find very precise instructions about modding ATI graphic drivers divided into three phases. Read them carefully. If you will do something wrong then for sure it will not work correctly or even will not install at all in your system.
STEP ONE:
Open CX_*****.inf file from C:\sp45701\Driver\XP_INF\ path.
Add there information with full model name, GPU and Hardware ID in first line under chapter called [ATI.Mfg.NTx86]:
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD xxxx " = ati2mtag_zzz, put here Your Hardware ID from this notepad file.
where:
- in place of ' xxxx ' you will write your graphic Model Number
and
- in place of ' zzz ' you will write your GPU Code Name
How to do it?
First we must find Model Number and GPU Code Name in below ATI documet:
ATI Catalyst™ PC VENDOR ID (1002) LIST
When you will open this site press key combination ' CTRL + F '. This way you will run search box in your browser. Write there your Device ID. In the same row in the first position there is Model Number and in the second position there is GPU Code Name.
When you will do this you need to save this file.
Now we will practice this step on example of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650:
We've got already Device ID of this graphic model and we need to find its Model Number and GPU Code Name. So we are going to posted above ATI site to find this information:
So now with all founded informations we may add this line to our file:
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650" = ati2mtag_M96, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9480&SUBSYS_3624103C
Here you may check how this file looks after this changes for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 model.
STEP TWO:
Now we will open second CX_*****.inf file from C:\sp45701\Driver\ path.
Caution: turn off word wrap under the format tab inside notepad before you add anything here!
Go to the END of the second line of the chapter called [WINXP].
Paste the Device ID preceded by " ,0x " (eg. ",0x9480" for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 without the "") and followed by " :0x " with SUBSYS value (eg. ":0x3624103C " for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 without the "").
This second line begins with "R6=DriverPath_R6,". Best way is to click once inside this line and hit the END button (in order to get the cursor to the end of that line) and then immediately paste it, in order to prevent any spaces or so.
Now we will practice this on example of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650.
Hadrwade ID for this graphic card is:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9480&SUBSYS_3624103C
from this we know then Device ID is:
9480
and SUBSYS have value:
3624103C
So in this step we need to paste this information:
,0x9480:0x3624103C
Here You may check how this file looks after this changes for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 model.
STEP THREE:
We are staying in the same path. Open now INSTALL.ini file and do here the same modifications which were done with second CX_*****.inf file. That's all.
Here You may check how this file looks after this changes for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 model.
6.
To install this modded driver go to:
C:\sp45701\
and run there Setup.exe file.
You will be informed that they aren't digitaly signed. Ignore this information and choose " Install it despite this ".
