Hp blank screen with blinking bar in left top corner

Hello I have a hp Pavilion dm4 it was working fine then all the sudden screen went blank and had a little flashing bar top left hand corner now I can't do anything at all the little light near the Capps blinks 3 times what do I do? Please help

Hi,

If you have more than one Memory Module installed, try the following - if you only have 1 module, try it in the other slot.

Remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot.  If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot.  If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start.

I'm not familiar with working on my own computer's could you kind of give me a list on how to go about doing this? If it's not to much to ask

I am did what you said and I got the same results blinking bar in left corner blank screen what gives?

Hi,

Shutdown the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start-up.  If this will access the bios menu, under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

That doesn't work either I have to keep hitting ESC then I can run them test and everything passed I don't understand
