MediaSmart won't play my new "Star Wars" Blu-ray disc

When I insert my new "Star Wars" blu-ray disc to my HP Pavilion dv6 notebook it displays a screen that tells me I need to update my blu-ray player by going to "cyberlink.com/BDUpdate" .  There I am asked to update my CyberLink software.  The only problem is I do not have CyberLink software installed.  Only HP MediaSmart.  How do I update my blu-ray player so it will play the "Star Wars" blu-ray disc?

Re: MediaSmart won't play my new "Star Wars" Blu-ray disc

My laptop is a Pavilion dv6, product number XA514UA#ABC.

I should add that I have downloaded the latest version of MediaSmart from the HP.ca website and nothing happens when I try to install it.  What I mean is that when I right click and open as administrator it seems to be upmacking contents but then disapears.  I don't get an install window at all.  This is after I uninstalled MediaSmart (based on other forum posts) so I could reinstall "clean".  Thanks for helping.

Re: MediaSmart won't play my new "Star Wars" Blu-ray disc

The problem with newer titles released on bluray is they have latest/updated digital protection mechanism which is not compatible with older software.

Hence they cause playback issues and also lead to more problems where even software doesnt function as expected. Only solution is to use an alternate s/w like Cyberlink Power DVD from below link.

Thank you.  I found this solution elsewhere in these forums and applied it yesterday.  It appears to work OK thus far.

Re: MediaSmart won't play my new "Star Wars" Blu-ray disc

I am having the same problem with my Star Wars blu-rays. I installed PowerDVD 10, but when I go to play the movie I get a box that says: CyberLink PowerDVD is not able to play the protected content on your digital output device. Ensure your display device supports HDCP. -(Code=0110)

Please help.

Re: MediaSmart won't play my new "Star Wars" Blu-ray disc

I just did a quick search online using your error message and found something interesting at this location:

They suggest getting a new HDMI cable?  Maybe that would help you, maybe not.

Best of luck.

Used a new HDMI cable and it  did not solve the problem. This is a bit ridiculous. I've spent a lot of money on my HP computer for it to suddenly not play blu-rays. I should not have to buy anything else to play on what I already have. Unless this problem can be fixed soon and with no extra cost to me, I will not be buying any HP products from here on out, and I'll make sure people I know understand what HP is all about.

The latest version of Cyberlink's PowerDVD is 11. You should try that one in my opinion.

PowerDVD 11 Download Page

Using a new HDMI cable has solved my problem in the past, but I believe using the newest version of PowerDVD will fix your issue. Best of luck to you!
