My computer has an annoying tendency to DIE.

I have a Compaq Presario F765EA, and every now and then it just cuts out; no warning, if there's audio playing it jams, I'm met with a 3-second blank screen and then the whole thing just dies. What is causing this? As far as I know, there is no program that is always open at the cutouts; I'm confident it's a Windows problem, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help me?

Re: My computer has an annoying tendency to DIE.

Hi buddy

I suggest test your hard drive first. Remember send more information about the problem.

Check if your hardware is ok, then go to your operating system.

Please do the following:

Plug the AC adapter into the notebook.

Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Press f10 when the HP/Compaq logo displays.

After the BIOS Setup Utility displays, use the Right Arrow key to select the Diagnostics menu.

Select HDD Self-Test and press enter to start the test

The Hard Drive Self Test executes a Quick test , a Comprehensive test, and a SMART test.

If any test fails , contact HP for instructions on how to order a replacement hard drive.

If all of the tests pass, the hard drive is not damaged.
Regards!
Good luck

Re: My computer has an annoying tendency to DIE.

The tests passed with flying colours.

Took a while, but it was necessary.

So...

Now what?

Thx,

Re: My computer has an annoying tendency to DIE.

Have you checked your event viewer?  Have you cleaned the dust out of the vents?

Why not stress the entire system?
