My laptop won't wake from sleep.

At least 95% of the time, when I tell my CQ60-433 laptop to sleep, it "wakes up" with a black screen.  The only "fix" so far is a reboot.  It has been this way since day one, which was August 2009, and I should have complained about it more vigorously a long, long time ago.  I have tried every solution on the HP self-care page and the problem persists.  If it weren't for this very annoying issue I would say my laptop is darned near perfect.  This puts it far away away from the "perfect" category.

I should mention I am running Windows 7, upgraded from Vista.  I had the problem with Vista and I have it now and I hate it.

Hi,

This problem can sometimes occur if Hybrid Sleep is enabled.  To disable this, follow the instructions on the link below.

Remember to click Apply to save any changes you may have made and the restart the notebook.

Is your laptop at bios level F.65?

Are you using hibernation mode for deep sleep?  You can turn that off for a test by doing the following:

At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

powercfg.exe -h off

Type exit, and then press ENTER.

Thanks to both of you for your prompt reply.

Bios is F.63.  I would love to know what that means.  I did a BIOS patch a few weeks ago in hopes it would fix this, but no dice.

I don't have the "Change power settings that are currently unavailable" option that's described in the MaximumPC link you suggested, but I went through and took out the hibernation option everywhere I saw it and did a restart.  I'm going to test the sleep function and let you know what happens.

Thanks again for your suggestions.  This has been vexing me for a year and a half, and if it weren't for the inability to sleep this would be just the most wonderful laptop EVER.

well, that didn't work.    Any chance there's a different BIOS patch that might fix this?

Hi,

Try changing the Power Plan completely ( ie to High Performance and save the change ) and then see if the 'Change power settings that are currently unavailable' option becomes available.

Hi,

From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and enter the following command, then hit enter again.

powercfg -restoredefaultschemes     ( note that there is a space after powercfg )

When complete, type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC and see if the Power Options are now available.
