My pavillion dv6000 restarts during startup.

My dv6000 froze the other day and I was forced to do a hard shutdown. However, the computer wouldn't restart after that. I turned on the computer and the dvd drive, the hard drive, and the cpu fan began to run but the computer quickly shut down and restarted. the process continued until I did aother hard shutdown (the whole startup to shutdown time usually takes about 10 or 15 seconds). The moniter doesn't power up during this process. I eventually got it running again, but the whole freezing/restart loop has become an increasingly persistent problem. Any help?

Re: My pavillion dv6000 restarts during startup.

try to run a hard drive self test in bios, since it seemed that you have *boot loop* problem, i think you might have a bad hard drive

go to bios by pressing f10 the moment you wld turn on your nb (hp invent/compaq screen), if there will be a msg window that wld ask to chhose yes or no, choose no, once you are in the main window of the bios screen, use your arrow keys to go to diagnostics section then run the hard disks self test, it will prompt you if there is a failure on the drive, if yes, contact hp support line 1-800-474-6836 for hard drive replacement and a copy of the recovery discs

if hard disk self test will pass then try to do these steps

press f8 the moment you wld turn on your nb

you will be directed to advance boot options

select repair last known good configuration then enter

observe if the nb can go to the desktop screen with no problems

if problem exists, then do these steps

press f8 the moment you wld turn on your nb

you will be directed to advance boot options

choose repair your computer

choose us layout for language

if prompted for administrator and you use a password when you try to log-in to windows, key-in your user log-in details then choose start-up repair

if not then just go on next

observe if the nb can go to the desktop screen with no problems

if problem exists, then do these steps

choose system restore (boot.. f11... recovery mgr advance boot options.. microsoft system restore), select a restore point at least a week before this issue started to happen

if system restore will not be an option do system recovery (boot.. f11... recovery mgr advance boot options.. system recovery)

Re: My pavillion dv6000 restarts during startup.

unfortunately the computer shutsdown and restarts before the hp invent screen comes up so I can'tenter the bios screen at all.

Re: My pavillion dv6000 blew up

Call customer service, do their tests, find out motherboard is bad, send it in to get it replaced (for free). More than likely anyways. I've heard there were some issues with this board so they should replace it for free. If not you should still be able to get your files off of your drive by taking it out as it should still be fine, google is your friend. :smileywink:

Good luck.

Re: My pavillion dv6000 restarts during startup.

Howdy phandlen11, Most HP PAVs use F10 on satetup(turning on), to get into MAIN bios. BE VeRy CaReFuLL on what you do there. yadayadyada, look below to see how to "setup defaults" for all sections.

Good Luck and
Good Sailing.
