NEED HELP WITH HARD DRIVE&USE OF RECOVERY DISCS

Hi!
I NEED HELP!!! I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx Notebook and something happened...which I STILL don't know what. When I turn my Laptop on the hp invent screen comes up then it goes to a Black Screen that says"No Bootable Device-Insert Boot Disk and press any key"...I have 3 Recovery Discs that came with my Laptop. I do realize I've probably already lost EVERYTHING I had but IF I can just get my Laptop running so I won't have to buy anything "New" I'll be happy enough. When I insert Disc #1 I can hear it running and it says "Windows is loading Files" then it goes to a screen where it looks like Microsoft is loading but then it just goes to a blank Black Screen with an Arrow and doesn't tell me to do anything else...Am I suppose to Insert Disc #2 at that point? Is it doing something even though it doesn't sound like it? WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO??? ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Re: NEED HELP WITH HARD DRIVE&USE OF RECOVERY DISCS

Hi,

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

Can you also post back with the version of Windows you are trying to reinstall.

Regards,

Re: NEED HELP WITH HARD DRIVE&USE OF RECOVERY DISCS

Hi,

You're welcome :smileyhappy:

Try removing and then re-seating the Hard Drive - the procedure is detailed starting on Page 59 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
