I like many others have chosen to "downgrade" to XP SP2; could someone please point me to the right driver downloads for my new Compaq CQ50-210US? My hardware list is as follows:
Display: Nvidia GeForce 8200M G
Modem: HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP
Touchpad: Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad
NICS: Atheros AR5007 802.11bg Wifi adapter, Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000 Networking Controller
Audio: Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221, NVIDIA High Definition Audio
Here's the link to the Vista drivers for the unit:

Thanks!

Thanks CorMIT! I think it's just common sense to provide as much info as possible when asking for assistance, yeah?
I'm still waiting for someone to point me to the correct drivers; anyone?
Thanks,
Doubletap001

Like so many others - I wanted to load XP on my Compaq CQ50-210US and found no drivers on HP's site. After combing the net, I found every last driver and built a Drivers CD that installs all XP drivers on a SP2 or SP3 installation (probably will work with SP1 and the original XP version - but I did not test)
Anyway - if someone can provide a site to upload it to I can uplad the ISO file and or the Zipped files archive. works PERFECT and the device list is clean as a whistle after install with no yellow exclamation points. If someone wants a CD - I can do that too for $8.00 - a guy on eBay is selling the same thign for $16.

Greg,
If your kind offer to FTP your driver file is still available you can upload to
novarng.org
username is temporary@novarng.org
pw is compaq
I only have 100Mbytes available. If you need more, let me know.
I can make it available for other people to download as long as it doesn't exceed my bandwidth quote for the site.

Try the following drivers,
XP Drivers for CQ50-210US
NVidia Chipset,(install and reboot before other drivers), here
NVIDIA GeForce 8200
Nvidia ForceWare X 179.28 for Windows XP/2K 32bit, here
3-step process to install:
1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
3. Install & reboot.
or you may try other versions, joint their forum for further details
Note:

Pieter's INF forgot to put hardware ID for 8200M G, see this post.
MS-UAA (required with a reboot before Audio, Modem and nForce HDMI Audio drivers), here
Conexant SmartAudio 221 (fix microphone problem by forum user) here

No to connect, Install from a list or specific location,
Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains.
Reboot.
Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP Driver, here

That's a lot of work aboove. I have simplifed the drivers install to a CD that you insert - a menu comes up and it guuides you step by step to insta;ll the drivers in the peoper order.I listed it on eBay for a very nominal charge to defray my production costs. Great to have for now or in the future even in case you decide at a later date to downgrade to XP.

Greg,
I was able to get my Compaq going (whew what a job). The audio was the last and hardest task. But for those who are still struggling, I've increased the available FTP space to 500 Mbytes. But with the work you put into this, you really should should think of selling your product on eBay. I have a lot of time and it became a challenge but if I didn't have the time, I would have gone to eBay.
It's interesting that consumer's aversion to VISTA would create little cottage industries.

Greg
I prefer installing drivers by manual, not by utilizing some fancy menu as it should be offered by HP, NOT by forum members.
If you have made a successful fancy XP driver installer packed in CD, I encourage you to NOT making it as a commercial product.
Your work will be much more appreciated if it offers as a freeware product.
Take a look of how many people are downloading Nlite for free, or www.laptopvideo2go.com for Nvidia drivers, or www.driverheaven.net for ATI drivers, etc.
As many of us here are helping each other without getting any fee ![]()
