New hard drive installed - now to restore OS

My son has a Compaq Presario F755US laptop.  He crashed the hard drive.   I never made the Restore disks on his PC.  We replaced his hard drive with a little bigger one - 250GB vs previous 160GB (same brand and other specs).  My daughter has the exact same PC... so I made restore disks from her pc (thought it was worth a try - didn't know if it would work) - I tried it on his - it went thru 2 disks fine - then went to the final 3rd disk and hung up - it just sits there...  I know I can order the new disks from HP - but I want to be sure they'll work since it's a different hard drive - even a different size hard drive?  I know Compaq used to be very proprietary... and the restore disks wouldn't work if you replaced any of the hardware....  Anyone know if I'll have any luck if I purchase the disks from HP?  Or if there's any way around making the disks work from my daughters PC?  Thanks.

Re: New hard drive installed - now to restore OS

I may be wrong but, if you replaced the hd by another you need to deactivate the original  hd otherwise it will assume your loading to another notebook. How you do that with a crashed hd I dont know. Suggest you contact HP support, Iv'e always found them very helpful.
