Hello!!
I was able to solve this problem!... First I tried everything ... re-install, recovery but n one of these worked. So I tried to disassemble my notebook.
I tested every part of it and verified that it was a memory problem.
I removed the damaged memory, so the problem was solved and the I was able to log on again.
After that I bought a new memory and intalled it in the empty place of the old damaged memory.
I hope this can help you.
Best Regards,

so i found the definitave answer to this question
after the hp tech guy made me run a full disk test, and a full memory test, to make sure that the computer was working fine, and i got 100% on both of those...
i was waiting for him to call back, when i tried my trusty "ultimate boot disk" (google the term, its a great little program.
I reset my bios to defaults
then i booted from the ultimate boot disk
i selected grub disk loader (not grub2, i dont know if that one works....i can verify this one)
this will ask you what os you want to boot into, select WIN !!! MBR option
it will fix the bootloader on your drive, and the rest of the system restore should complete
upon the next restart the computer boots just fine.

Hi all!
I've got similar problem with my pavilion dv6-3120eh notebook. With no warning just blink a blue screen for a moment, than shut down. I pressed the power button. But I see only the HP logo for 1-2 minutes, then I see the same as U: no bootable device... etc. So it's happened again.
I got this problem before, I call HP support, but that time it was enough to unplug power and reset. This time this protocol not help and today is Friday and no support in my country
I don't know what can I do now, but I don' t want to wait till Monday.
I think my hard drive died, cause the hard drive test not start..... it will be beautiful when I lost all of my data.... cause it's necessary for my work.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on an HP Pavilion dv7-4083cl Entertainment Notebook. I also had this exact same problem. Have you guys tried running diskpart (from a bootable cd that provides a command prompt) and marking your partition as active? Worked like a charm for me! I used a downloaded version of the Windows 7 recovery cd to get access to the command prompt. Hope this helps!

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-401SA
It is 18 months old (just 6 months out of warranty) and the hard disk has just crashed horrendously badly. I removed the hard drive and connected it to another computer which recommended running "chkdsk" on it, this highlighted thousands of errors which it could not fix and has effectively corrupted everything on it beyond repair.
So I have no option but to use the system recovery disks which I created when I first bought the machine. I've bought a new identical hard drive and installed that and been through the system recovery menu option, all 3 DVDs. At the end it said "remove DVD and reboot" which I did, now I am presented with this message "No bootable device ...."
Why does the system recovery not work HP?! What do I have to do?!

I think I know what I did wrong - I recovered using "System Recovery" instead of "Factory Reset".
I found a more thorough description of the differences than was given on the screen menu here:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docnam
So I'm now going through the recovery process again using that "Factory Reset" option.
