No sound after Vista Service Pack 2 Installation - can't find a fix

Hi,

I Recently downloaded the Service Pack 2 on my laptop, it runs vista and is a Pavillon dv5 1232tx. The audio driver is the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC version 6.10.6225.0. I've tried unistalling then reinstalling the driver, I'd install the latest model but all the ones I can find are older and the update from Device Manager says it's up to date. if there is a newer one that is might be the fix. It could be some deeper problem; after trying to fix it by plugging some headphones in during a youtibe video it froze, then a brief windows window opened saying 'HOST Crash' or something or other, then the sound came back but after I removed the headphones it ceased to work again. 

Any help would be appreciated as it's rather annoying.
