Only works in Safe Mode with network

I have a Compaq Presario SR2010NX with Windows XP Service Pack 3.

For the past 2 days my computer was in the funk of the BSOD with the error message "PAGE_FAULT_IN
_NONPAGED_AREA" STOP:0x00000050. To make this very long story short ~ i ran McAFee last night and it cleaned out all of the "nasty junk" but now i can not connect to the internet in reqular mode but i can do it in safe mode. I called my isp and after jumping through all their hoops they decided that i should get in contactg with Compag ~ th problem now is that the computer does not recogize the modem and when i go to control panel and network connection there is nothing in the folder, so there is nothing to fix, but in safe mode, the LAN connecton is there.

Does anyone have any idea how i can go about fixing this.

What`s the condition when running xpp sp2 but not sp3?

What OS running on you laptop?

Are there any ?or ! in the device manager?

make sure you installed the UAA and audio driver (xp) correctlly

Sounds like something is blocking the LAN card from initalizing during startup.

Check your msconfig and make sure that you aren't set to a diagnostic startup.

If everything worked until you ran the McAfee cleanup, I might "guess" that you had a Trojan or some dialer program that was bound to the modem.  Now that you have cleaned up your machine, the modem is not available. (Just a guess)

As for the BSOD: STOP:0x00000050

Try running: MemTest86+

After an infestation I would recommend a different AV/Firewall program.  Take a look at Eset's Smart Security.

Find a buddy or if you have another machine, you could burn a CD of Smart Security and install it on that system.  But that will not fix the lost modem.  You could try a OS repair or reload your system, and install Eset Smart Security.
