Hi there,
I am not sure of any other avenue for customer reviews so I thought I'd post here.
I purchased this laptop in February this year and while I usually don't like to make a fuss (hence why its taken 8 months for me to build up the stomach to post this) I must say that I'm incredibly disappointed with its performance. I can't go more than 1 hour before the laptop overheats to the point where it practically burns my hand when I'm typing.
It is often slow, despite the fact that I often clear my temp files and C
rive and I do not play games on the machine, rather only weekly utilising streaming on-line.
I am tempted to throw away the laptop already before the year is out and never purchase HP again because of the poor quality of this machine.
I've tried everything - wasted money on a compressed air bottle to perform the overheating "solution" dictated previously, wasted money on a notepad cooler, took the battery out and just utilised the power supply..Nothing works and still overheats which means my sound quality reduces to nothing - basically similar to that of a slowed down robot voice when the laptop is hot.
If I could go back to February I wouldn't waste my money on this machine. It has caused nothing but problems since I purchased it. I thought purchasing a HP meant I was purchasing a quality & durable machine that would last longer than 6 months.
But apparently I was wrong.
I hope someone here can provide a solution for me because clearly everything I've tried has not worked thus far.
Regards,
Michael

I would Contact HP for warranty service before the standard 1yr runs out.

Here's the issue (look below).
Specifications
Advanced Technologies
You have a Quad Core, thats 2x more heat to disapate than a Core 2 Duo or i5
My Quad at idle is 57.5C and peeks out at 82-85C when doing video processing or gameing.
The newer i7's are more efficient, the heat issue has been addressd, an i5 Dual Core 450M @ 2.4 GHz has a TJunction of 105C.
Even at 105C, there is 1/2 the volume of heat generated, so things cool quicker.

So I've essentially just wasted my money when I bought this machine in February?

You might also want to look at THIS to see if your machine is affected.

Seriously,,,,everybody and there dog has a program starting when you turn on your machine.
Windows has numerous startup programs that can be shut down and are not needed.
HP has numerous 'Bloatware' programs that can be shut down.
These can all be turned off from the Start Up Menu.
And all that because you have the newest and fastest CPU to run all that crap at the same time.
You also have to look at your antivirus-malware-spyware and firewall programs from conflicting and running against each other,
and any other programs that may be running in the background that are not needed.
If you don't actually 'Shut Down' your PC every 2-3 days and constantly use it, there will be programs started and running in the background, even if you 'EXIT' the program,
All this 'STUFF' running in the background is where the heat problem is being generated from.
You may need to do some house cleaning.
Install 'Real Temp GT 360', set the alarm to 85C, and keep an eye on things.

If your CPU is 'THROTTLING BACK' due to high temps, you have to keep an eye on this and start corrective measures NOW.
If you want to get rid of your pc I'll give you $100,,,,,,,,,![]()

Hey, I also have a dv6 with a 1.6GHz 1st gen i7.
I know what you mean with the overheating issues, but as for your sound quality, that's all down to your settings. I had this problem, and by tweaking your power and audio settings the heat will not affect your computer performance. If you would like, I could go through and find what the settings were that I altered and hope that they also help you.
Also, for the heat problem I found 2 solutions that help; firstly when you are not using your laptop but it is still running, rest it on its screen rather than it's base so as to allow better ait circulation. And second, I always use my laptop on my lap, keeping the middle of centred roughly over my left leg, thus allowing much better air flow.
I hope this helps, and I'd be happy to answer any questions or help in any way.

my laptop dv6 3124tx is also start overheating 1 week back , 2 days ago while working on a project ,i found that my task manger is now disabled ,and then i try registry solution ,and find out that it is fine , than i download antimalwarebytes software and scan my pc and i found the culprit it was a virus blocking my task manager ,when i deleted the virus and restart my pc its working like other laptop of mine.
if your task manager is disabled or not just perform a quick scan from anti malware bytes once
hope this is helpful
