Hi everybody, I bought my DV7 (see below) two months ago and since then I have been ramdonly experiencing problems at shutdown. It seems that Vista shuts down normally but then the screen goes black but the quick launch buttons remain on, at last I have to manually shutdown by holding the power button.
This happens ramdonly and even I have tried to find a pattern I haven´t been able to do so. I have googled my problem and other people seem to be experiencing the same problem but haven´t found a solution. HP support run out of ideas (update BIOS,etc...) and told me to format and install everything again but I don´t think it will solve the problem.
Any help will be welcome. Thanks

Your signature is not displaying. EDIT: Your sig shows since your edit. You might consider using the automatic Signature function the forum provides.
If you have anything plugged into any of your USB ports, try disconnecting those to determine if the devices are contributing to your problem. Sometimes on Startup or Shutdown, USB devices might cause intermittent problems.
Reply with your results.

I once had exactly the same problem you are having except on Startup. If I had anything whatsoever plugged in any USB port, including my external mouse and keyboard, Expansion Base (docking station) external USB HDD, etc. my system would intermittently hang at the black screen on Startup. However, if I disconnected all of the USB cables leading to the devices I never had the Startup hang. Immediately upon reconnecting any one of the several USB devices, I would get the error, although sometimes intermittently. Tech support was some help but the BIOS Flash I did (the one and only one I have done) upon the HP tech's recommendation did not help. I "assume" that I finally solved my problems by using Device Manager to repetitively uninstall/reinstall all of my USB Root Hub drivers per another tech's suggestion.
Eventually, my Startup hang "disappeared". The external USB HDD was most often the culprit and I rarely use it except to perform backups, so I am not positive that I will never have the Startup hang ever again, although it at least has not happened again with my USB mouse and keyboard.
Good luck with finding a fix.
