Pavilion Dv7-1170US remote control not working

Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Human Interface Devices

there should be Ene Cir receiver.

Click with right button of Your mouse on it and choose properties. Then go to bottom details and paste here Hardware Ids. This way we will know what it is.

Well it seems like I may just have to stick my remote control in it's slot and leave it there..After looking all around for possible solutions I have not gotten any..I give up...Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Someone else had the problem and went here.  I bookmarked it in case I have problems when I upgrade.  Let me know if it helps.

well i downloaded it and tried...half way tru it told me that my system doesn't meet the minium requirments for the update...i even tried right clicking and run it as administrator but no luck at all...am running windows 7 x86......could u please tell me what might be causing that error with me?

Sorry then I reply so late....

On boot press F8 and choose Safe mode.

First be sure that You haven't got installed any drivers for Ene Cir Receiver. If You have please uninstall it from Your system.

Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Human Interface Devices

and find there Microsoft eHome Infrared Transreceiver. Click on it with right button of Your mouse and choose uninstall driver.

Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Keyboard

and find there all three Microsoft eHome devices. Click on each of them with right button of Your mouse and choose uninstall driver.

Only when You will do that install:

ENE CIR (Infrared Reciever here

Restart Your system and start it this time in normal mode.

well i tried that exactly what you said and still it's not functioning.....any more techniques?
