On all other PC's that I have used, when downloading and or installing programmes you used to get a pop up info bar telling you where the programme was going to install and also giving you a choice of selecting another drive, usb stick etc. On this new HP machine all downloads go direct to the on board hard drive without any choice being given. I think I need to alter a setting but don't know which one. Can anyone help. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
This is something to do with the browser(s), not the machine. I think you can set this up from browser. This is for Internet Explorer (IE9 may not be the same)

Hello and thanks for your very quick reply. I have had a look at the link and understand what you are saying, what stumps me is that this will just direct downloads to one particular drive when before when using XP, Vista with Explorer it would not only advise on which drive and folder it was going to download to it also gave you the choice of changing the destination drive and folder. This is what I need to do as I am will be using not only the hard disc on the machine but external drives and usb sticks. Any further advice would be welcome.

Hi,
I don't know you can go back to IE6 or not, YES IE6 (may be IE7 too) allowed you to do that but NOT IE8. I don't know why Microsoft's done that, probably due to their "Libraries" concept.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have no idea why they have decided to do this either, its all a bit stupid really. Its amazing how quick a new hard drive can get full, I was just tying to ease the problem by keeping it off the main system. Oh well thanks for all your advise anyway. Take care and thanks again.
