Pavilion dv7 CD unit "plug and play device issue"

I just recently realized my CD player (DVDRAM GT50N) was not working on my Pav DV7.

I tried the "Fix it" issue through the Microsoft site and the report came back with the following message: "The device is experiencing a plug and play device issue. Windows has detected a device status error with this device and will keep checking for problems."

Could someone explain how I can get this fixed again? I just bought this thing last month. Thank you

1. Uninstall the dvd drive using device manager and restart the PC, see if it works now.

2. If #1 does not work remove and reinsert the DVD drive several times from the laptop,  to clean the contacts on the drive and motherboard.

3. If #2 and 3 fail to get it working, Back up personal data and Send it in for warranty repair.

Thank you. I decided to try Safe Mode, rolled back a week on my system restore and rebooted. The CD unit is functioning again.

How do i reinstall the dvd drive?

Start>right click computer>manage>device manager> right click the top item (your PC name)>scan for hardware changes
