Have you tried installing Nvidia driver from Nvidia site?
If it does not work, you may try modded inf from laptopvideo2go, here for 64bit and here for 32 bit
3-step process to install:
1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
3. Install & reboot.

It is safe? I can not say. But all of my notebooks are using mod drivers from laptopvideo2go.com.
All running perfect . Sometimes, there is a buggy one since it is not perfectly tested but overall is good.
BTW that drivers are release by Nvidia for specific hardware, laptopvideo2go just unlocked it with modded INF.
If you feel the driver is not performed as it should you can always uninstall it from control panel than using driver sweeper to remove driver leftovers from your system.
Have you tried Nvidia site?
For the very safe way is stay with Vista, HP will totally support drivers for your notebook.

I have installed Windows 7 on my Pavilion DV9790eo but the screen (display) is showing two displays with a white line cutting across. I suspect it is the drivers (Mayve NVIDIA) but I have failed to get the correct drivers. HP doesn't seem to have Windows 7 drivers for my model. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi:
if you have the nVidia Mobile 8600 GS graphics adapter, here are the Windows 7 32 bit drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvist
If you installed W7 64 bit, here are the drivers:
