You mentioned you installed the patch, did you follow this document that includes instructions after upgrading?:
Resolving HP Solution Center Scan and Product Status Issues After Upgrading Windows Vista to Windows 7
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docnam
Here is why I believe this SHOULD HAVE worked -
1) you mentioned you upgraded
2) when printer software is upgraded from Vista to Win7, there is a component that is deleted in the upgrade process.
3) If you are not already on v13, it is important you get the latest software - this also will replace the missing file and you will have the Win7 software designed for your printer.
I'd like to look into your issue if you tried this and it did not work.
If I have helped you solve your issue please mark it as solved .....

I installed my Photosmart C8180 on a new computer using Windows 7 Pro not and upgrade. Everything seems to work except Scan Picture. The Scan Document works when PDF's but not when saving the document as a JPG. The picture or document is scanned but when you click the Finish button, no file is created.

Thank you!! I had tried to download that driver yesterday, but for some reason it didn't install. With these directions, it did!--and now HP Solution Center appears to be working. Thank you so much for taking the time to assist me.

The installer quit halfway through the install procedure for my HP Photosmart 8180 printer. I dowloaded successfully two months ago and the Solutions Center software corrupted. I uninstalled and have tried all day to reinstall.

Hello gersalwhite,
How are you installing - by disc or from downloading the files online? Are you still having issues?
Take a look at this document and let me know if it helps.
Good luck!
