ProBook 4530s - Shift key stays on

Occasionally and randomly, my notebook will behave as if the shift key is permantly on.

I.e. Clicking links will open new window, pressing a number 5 key will give you a %, etc.

Then after a while it will go back to normal again.

All very anoying, any help available to prevent this?

Thakns.

Re: ProBook 4530s - Shift key stays on

I'm having this exact same problem. It is a major headache. I'll be in the middle of writing a letter to a customer and suddenly everything I type is as if the shift key is on.

Re: ProBook 4530s - Shift key stays on

Pressing the shift key quickly about 5 or 6 times seems  too send it back to normal. Be sure though not to turn on sticky keys.

Re: ProBook 4530s - Shift key stays on

My wifes 4530s has this issue as well.  I think the problem started early this year after I upgraded the BIOS.  She had an issue where her battery was low, she plugged in the AC adapter, and the laptop didn't seem to recognize that it was plugged in, so still shut down.  I tried a different adapter (my laptop uses the same adapter) and still no joy. Finally took the battery out and plugged in the adapter after letting things sit for a while, and it came back up, and the battery charged.  I thought this might be a BIOS issue, and checked the web site, and noticed there was an update, so updated to F20.

After that, She seemed to start having issues with the control key getting stuck on, the shift key getting stuck on, and the touchpad disabling itself, sometimes turning on the led that says it is off, and sometimes not. Usually the shift or control key issues can be fixed simply by pressing the key again.  The touchpad can be more difficult,  sometimes if you keep double tapping the location where the LED is (which can be hard when it is off) it will eventually turn the LED on, indicating that the touchpad is disabled, and then double tapping it again to turn the touchpad back on (and the LED off).

I did update that toucpad driver after this started happening, and the issue may be a little better, but still exists.

I notice there is a new BIOS update (F23) has anyone tried that one?

Re: ProBook 4530s - Shift key stays on

Count me in as another with the problem, besides the stuck caps I often skip keys when typing too fast.  Overall very frustrated with the built in keyboard, I haven't got this problem when a USB keyboard is attached however.

Mine too and its extremely annoying.  I've only had the laptop for about 14 days now and I'm really considering taking it back because of this.

Re: ProBook 4530s - Shift key stays on

My school purchased 120 of these laptops... About 20% of the people have had this issue. Replacing the keyboard doesn't help either... I've tried. HP needs to isolate the problem and produce a fix or compensate those of us who suffer with it and can't return it! This is ridiculous!
