Recovery disc creation size question and options.

So since buying my laptop ive put a few games and other misc programs on the C partition totalling about 18gigs worth. When i create my recovery discs will it only make them from the special recovery partition and use only the suggested 3 dvd +r's or will it also include some stuff off of the c drive and come out way bigger?

And another question when im done making the disc's when i use them will they work just like how the recovery manager works when you pull it up in windows from the recovery partition? I want to know this because when i use the recovery manager in windows from the partition it gives me a separate option to reinstall any of the drivers and extra programs( i.e.: dvd suite, youcam, norton) that came with the pc?

Re: Recovery disc creation size question and options.

Creating Recovery Disks only uses info from the Recovery partition. No added programs or files are included.

On all Recovery sets I have when you boot from them they do a complete reinstall back to factory specs. No option of installing only drivers or apps.

Well that sucks, so its basically impossible to install a different ver of windows and get access to the extra apps?

Re: Recovery disc creation size question and options.

You have a folder on your C: drive titled SwSetup. It has installers for the original drivers & apps.Copy it (or what you want from it) to DVD before changing OS.

Re: Recovery disc creation size question and options.

Just FYI, on the newer systems such as the dv7-4295 you could need 8 or more DVD+R's to make the recovery disc set.

and the microsoft create system image is estimated to be as large as 104GB (20+ DVD's)

note this system did have a 1TB drive if that is the reason the sets or so large.

Re: Recovery disc creation size question and options.

I have never seen a Recovery set take 8 dvds, but there is always a first I guess. When you start the Recovery creation process it will tell you how may disks are needed. If you don't have enough it will let you cancel till you get more.

And yes, I am a girl.:smileyhappy:

Re: Recovery disc creation size question and options.

The recovery process did state 8, which was also a surprise to me since I have older DV7's that took 2-3.

It did run through all 8 DVDs.
