Restoring to factory settings - problems

Need some advice, pls. :smileyhappy:

My HP Pavillion laptop is completely hosed,so I'd like to return to factory settings (I've set up an online drive for reloading things later).

It's told me I don't have a restore point - I don't care... I want to restore to factory settings. It will only let me set a restore point for now, but it's broken NOW. :smileyhappy:

Any ideas? I suppose I can take it in to Best Buy and get a new hard drive, but this laptop is only 8 months old.

Is there a customer service number I can call for advice?

Re: Restoring to factory settings - problems

Did you make the recovery discs for the unit? Are you able to press F11 at startup to launch recovery manager? Can you launch recovery manager from within Windows?

Re: Restoring to factory settings - problems

Oh, there's the reply link. :smileyvery-happy:

I can't find any disks. I just want to take the whole thing back to factory settings, which should exist on the hard drive. Am I wrong?

I can probably BUY Vista and reinstall if I need to.

F11 does nothing. I did get to the Backup Status and Config page, and in Backup and Restore Center, I hit the System Restore link, and it says it's "already running". (after about five minutes, which is about how long it takes for anything I click on to come up onscreen.)   I've tried this loads of times with the same result.

Re: Restoring to factory settings - problems

If not you should be able to call HP Support and order a new set of recovery discs. This would be the easiest solution and the cheapest.
