This laptop runs xp. It has print spooler problems. Right now, I just hooked up our newer Epson all in one to it and it wouldn't accept it (finish the Found New Hardware Wizard) because it said the "RPC Server is unavailable". Do you have any ideas how to get this laptop to print? Ironically, it will scan. It can scan a document in, email it to another email addy (another laptop), and then that laptop can print it off. I can give you more specific info on this problem laptop; I just have to look for it. Thanks.

I would suggest you perform these steps...
First Solution
•Go to Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services
•Select "Print Spooler".
•While it is noted "arrested", start it by double-clicking on "Print Spooler" and then click the "Start" button.
•Verify that the "startup type" is set to "automatic".
Second Solution
•Click on Start / Run and enter:
•Services.msc
•In the right list, find "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)"
•Clicking the right mouse button and choose "Properties"
•Go to the tab "Recovery", and then sequentially in First Failure, Second Failure, etc. and select "Restart Service"
•Validate the change OK
If the issue persists, please uninstall the epson printer software completely and reinstall again.

First solution:
That's exactly what it's set to.
Second solution:
I will have to hunt for that disk. I think we have hunted before and it has come up missing so I may have to contact Epson. Thank you very much for your assistance, though.

I'm running windows xp and had the same issue after installing my new epson all-in-one, so I searched online and found this thread at the top of the search results.
I tried the first solution suggested and discovered that the print spooler was showing as disabled - after setting it to automatic and clicking start, my printer is suddenly being recognized and is working perfectly! I've got a dell laptop rather than an HP computer, so I'm guessing the issue is with windows xp... really stupid that it would disable the print spooler for no apparent reason, but at least it's an easy fix ![]()
thanks for the great advice!
