Install CPU-Z in your current system. You may download this program from here.

Below screenshot shows where you will find links to this software on CPU-Z home page.

CPU-Z 01.PNG

Now run CPU-Z and select ' Mainboard ' tab.

CPU-Z 02.PNG

CPU-Z 03.PNG

You will find there two important informations about your chipset:

  • brand (in above examples: Intel)

           and

  • type (in above examples: PM965 and HM55).

If your laptop chipset is manufactured by:

  • Intel

Go to point B and do everything what's written there.

  • Nvidia

Go to point C and do everything what's written there.

  • AMD

If you've got few Intel models and you want to use only one installation disc for all of them then:

You need to slipstream Intel SATA drivers using nLite.

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide that shows the slipstream process step by step with the title " How to slipstream all Intel SATA drivers into a Windows XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free software) to open it).

Here is the pdf file with the same guide (use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software) to open it).

If you've got only one Intel model then you may want to slipstream only specific driver:

For models with HM65, HM67, UM67, QS67 or QM67 chipset:

You need to slipstream the SATA driver (only Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller) using nLite.

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide that shows the slipstream process step by step with the title " How to slipstream the Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA driver into a Windows XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free software) to open it).

For models with PM55, HM57, QM57 or QS57 chipset:

You need to slipstream the SATA driver (only 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller) using nLite.

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide that shows the slipstream process step by step with the title " How to slipstream the Intel 5 Series 6 Port SATA driver into a XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free software) to open it).

Here is the pdf file with the same guide (use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software) to open it).

For models with HM55 chipset:

You need to slipstream the SATA driver (only 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller) using nLite.

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide that shows the slipstream process step by step with the title " How to slipstream the Intel 5 Series 4 Port SATA driver into a XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free software) to open it).

Here is the pdf file with the same guide (use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software) to open it).

For models with GL40, GS40, GM45, GS45 or PM45 chipset:

You need to slipstream the SATA driver(only ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller) using nLite.

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide that shows the slipstream process step by step with the title " How to slipstream the Intel ICH9M SATA driver into a Windows XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free software) to open it).

For models with ION or ION LE chipset (HP Mini 311 and Compaq Mini 311c series models):

You need to slipstream the SATA driver using nLite.

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide that shows the slipstream process step by step with the title " How to slipstream the Nvidia SATA driver into a Windows XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free software) to open it).

Here is the pdf file with the same guide (use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free software) to open it).

For models with other chipsets:

You don't need to slipstream any SATA driver.

Determine does any Service Pack (SP) has been integrated with the XP installation disc and if so, which version (it should be at least SP2). How to do it?

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide with the title " How to determine which Service Pack (SP) has been integrated with the XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free) to open it).

Here is the pdf file with the same guide (use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) to open it).

When you will find out that the XP installation disc was not integrated with SP or integrated only with SP1 then use the below document to check how to slipstream SP2:

Here you will find the doc file containing a guide with the title " How to slipstream Service Pack into a Windows XP installation disc. " (use Microsoft Office or Open Office (free) to open it).

Here is the pdf file with the same guide (use Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) to open it).
