The error message indicated that your hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.
What is the installed operating system?
Is your notebook still in warranty?
Short DST stands for Short Drive Self Test

Unfortunately, that is a maybe (without any guarantee).
You can place it as a secondary drive in your PC and try to recover the data. You can also put it in an appropriate eSATA or USB hard disk enclosure to connect to your PC.
To recover your notebook to the state it was in when you first opened the box you will need either your recovery disk set or recovery USB thumbdrive. If you did not create recovery media than I suggest buying it fomr HP or an HP partner. It is quite inexpensive. the average price is @ $25.00.
