Suddenly unable to type on any page

Suddenly unable to type on any page-- when I try to type when this happens, all it does is go from open tab to open tab, still not being able to type on a page.  If I click on a page and try to scroll down or up, it makes the page larger or smaller.  This doesnt happen all the time, but it almost seems like Im hitting a combination of keys on the keyboard that makes it do it.  I have to restart the computer to get it to stop doing it, which is a pain in the ass.  Can anyone help?  And I havent changed any settings on the computer.  Help!
