I have a HP dv2315 with Vista. Over the past few months, vista has begun to hang when starting up and browsing folders, or on the internet. The interent problem has gotten so bad that I have had to to abandon use of Firefox and Chrome and have reverted back to IE7. I moved all my data to a portable hard drive and am ready to run the recovery DVD's that I made when I first bought it. Now my computer only recognizes those DVDs as blank. And the computer refuses to boot off them. Even when the DVD-RW drive is selected as primary boot device. When I put them into another computer, it sees that they have information. I also tried running the vista startup repair to no avail. Most of the other information that I have read on Vista hang issues is the start up files are corrupt.
help!

" Computer refuses to boot off them." Hmm... perhaps, the boot device enablement is not setup properly in the BIOS setting.
After you turn on the notebook, go into BIOS (by pressing Esc/F10) Then, ensure CD-ROM is enabled as boot-up device.
Check the boot-up sequence, make sure CD-ROM is before hard-drive.
Also, system recovery can be done via pressing F11, at boot up. Have you tried that?
