System Recover Files Inaccessible

After using the HP Backup and Recovery software I successfully restored my Vista to Factory shipped condition. I did this using a USB External. This placed a "System Recovery Files" shortcut on my desktop containing all of the program files and media I wanted to back up and restore. The problem is, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to restore them or even gain access to them.

I've tried changing the administrative privilges in normal and safe modes. Ive tried moving some content of the folder to my desktop.

I have searched hi and low on this forum and in google to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

most likely on the hidden recovery partition

Not sure what exactly you mean and what you are looking for. Do you mean you did a "system recovery" that restored your notebook back to manufature setting? using an external DVD/HD?

If the question is just what the shortcut is pointing to, doesn't the property of it show the target?

Re: most likely on the hidden recovery partition

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Charles.

Yes I did a system recovery that restored my notebook back to manufacture settings. When I did I was asked if I wanted to back up important files such as pictures and what not. I did. On to my External HD. I tried to restore these files to my primary partition(their original location)...everything seemed to be going smoothly. I now have a shortcut on my desktop with what seems to be all of the files I designated for back up. However I have no administrative access to them I can only look at them. I cannot open them.

What good is a "shortcut" to my files if it isn't actually a shortcut? And why now are my files inaccessable?

Re: System Recover Files Inaccessible

I just posted a very similar situation...my files recovered to their proper location, but my main document directory is locked.

I could see all of my files restoring, but I have no access to them (message is 'access denied').

I have full administrative priviledges with my login...

There has got to be a simple solution???

Re: most likely on the hidden recovery partition

This is the first time trying this. I cannot figure out how to post a question so I am just replying to a similar one. Sorry! I need HELP!! Just bought a HP dv7-1245 notebook. I am trying to create the recovery disks. This is my second attempt only to be in the same position... I am using DVD-R disks which require 3 of them. I followed the directions and both times got this same message. Looking at my screen now it says Disk 1 of 3 successfully created. Under that it say re-insert the disk you have just written and close the drive tray. I assume that means disk one that has just been completed. Although this make no sence to me I did just that. It has now been sitting all day with no action. According to the task manager it is still running???? The first time I closed it down and tried to restart it and it did not restart from where I left off as stated??? What now? Thank you!!!!

Re: System Recover Files Inaccessible

I'm having the same problem restoring my files, no access.  I was able to add the new administrator, me again with new SID, to each individual file but I can't do that for 11,000 files.  Any ideas?
