Hi,
You can order a replacement set of Recovery Disc directly from HP - call them using the contact details on the relevant link below and explain that the Recovery Media Creator fails to create a viable set of discs and ask them to send you a free set.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

DP-K

Hi,
If your notebook will not create a System Repair Disc, here are a couple of other options.
1. You can use another Windows 7 64bit PC to create a repair CD.
2. You can download the ISO from the link below.
You should use an application such as ImgBurn to correctly burn the ISO to a CD.

OK, I downloaded 164MB of something with ISO on the end:
1. What is it and what do I do with it?
2. It is a zip, I assume I unzip it, if I do, do I use ImgBurn to create an image or just burn all the files I see onto a blank disc?
3. Is every Repair Disc for W7-64 identical? If so why doesn''t it just come with the laptop?
4. Does the RepairDisc need to change if I make changes to my PC? ( have an image backup)
5. If I just need to burn all the files I see in the zip is there any particular reason to use ImgBurn, will the normal DVD burner not work?
6. Once I hav the disc, when do I use it?
Sorry about all these questions, Windows gives us an error message if we don't make these discs and backups but then actually doing it is not so simple.

Hi,
I need to make certain that I'm clear on what you actually require as there are Two very similar terms:
1. Rescue Disc - This will allow you to carry out some repairs to an existing installation of Windows, but does not contain the files required to reinstall the whole operation system.
2. Recovery Discs - On a new notebook, you are able to create 1 set of recovery discs. These will allow you to reinstall the entire operating system, but the system will be in the exact same condition you bought it in - ie, any programs, files etc added after you bought the machine will be gone.
Let me know.

Well, HP sent me a recovery disc for free because my HP Envy couldn't make one; at least I think that is what it was. And I made a backup system image on a backup drive, but I have no idea when or where to use it or whether I need to back it up again. I don't know whether either of these is a repair disc. Just asking around my colleagues, not one of them can answer these questions, although some thought they probably had recovery discs with the original package; many had no backup of anything at all. Do I need anything else to protect my system other than the Recovery Discs sent by HP, and now old, system image on a backup drive?

Hi,
To start with, regarding the Rescue CD, you can create the disc without having to download anything as described in the article Here.
The Recovery Discs HP sent you will reinstall the operating system and all of the software that originally came with your notebook. This will return the notebook to the exact condition it was in when you purchased it, so any files or programs you have added since purchase will be gone.
A System Image is different. This is a 'snapshot' of the operating system and all the programs and files it contains, at the time the Image was created.
To give an example, imagine your Hard Drive failed and had to be replaced. If you use the HP Recovery Discs, your notebook will look as it did when first purchased. If you restore the System Image to the new Hard Drive, your notebook will look exactly the same as it did on the day the Image was created. To restore a System Image, see the following link.
