The HP support software never worked

I bought a Pavillion dv7-6b55dx Laptop back in January.  It had an error message on top and nothing seems to work. I tried to download a new version, that didn't work either.  What can I do o get it to work--it looks like it would be very useful.

You can override the HP Support Assistant software by downloading and installing the latest version from the following weblink:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54620.exe

I tried what you said to do several times and it seemed like it started to download, it even asked me about the override but then it did nothing after that.
