@Jugney

Uninstall Broadcom using Add & Remove in Control Panel. Next try this version HERE

Re: Tips on downgrading dv6000 from Vista 32-bit to XP?

[ Edited ]

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm getting the same result, though. During installation, it doesn't show anything after the file extraction phase, although I do see the program has been installed under the "Add or Remove Programs" section of the Control Panel.

I might mention I went about installing XP because I had been on Linux (Linux Mint 6, based on Ubuntu 8.10) and had a problem with the wireless there. Unbeknownst to me, there is a known issue with taking HP's into standby mode, i.e. some hardware isn't recognized afterwards. This happened to me for the wireless. I got fed up after hours of trying to find a fix that worked, so I wiped everything and went to XP figuring it would be easy. Surprisingly, the issue persists.

Now, I don't imagine this affects the troubleshooting too much, since the hardware is the same and the way of fixing/diagnosing the issue would be the same as any other dv6308nr running XP. But I thought it might be useful information in trying to figure this out.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Tips on downgrading dv6000 from Vista 32-bit to XP?

That was going to be in my next reply...was it working before installing XP. You could try reseating the wireless card.However your laptop P/N is RV010UA, which is listed on the Limited Extended Warranty page as one with known failure.

Thank you for the tip. I called customer support and it turns out I am 2 weeks outside the Extended Warranty period. However, I can still get free chat.

On the chat I was told my wireless card needs to be reseated. I will try that tonight.

When I asked to confirm I was using the correct version of BIOS and mentioned I was running XP, he shared with me reasons they don't recommend downgrading to XP. (He was great though, he kept suppoting me even after I said I was on XP).

However, there was one thing about downgrading he said that I wanted to check with you:

Tech Support Guy : Even if a third-party company or Windows itself can provide generic drivers that will allow all of your devices to operate, the performance of your HP PC may be less than optimal.

Can anyone comment on this as it may or may not relate to using dv6000z CTO drivers?

Re: Tips on downgrading dv6000 from Vista 32-bit to XP?

Arrrrggggghhhhh. Reseating did nothing. Perhaps it is a hardware failure.

Since I'm outside the "Extended Limited Warranty" period, despite the fact that it is their hardware's maldesign,should I just pay the $50 to get support on the issue?
