Re: Touch sensitive controls on dv7-1451nr automatically launch Microsoft Excel

I have the same problem with my HP Pavilion dv4 1220us.... for months... nobody can help me... I have posted a question in Microsoft's board which you can find at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistahardware/thread/0f977e2f-f93e-41fd-b503-8125f3acc6e6  or just google " Volume controls launch Microsoft Excel". It will help if you "vote" indicating that you need an answer as well.

Re: Touch sensitive controls on dv7-1451nr automatically launch Microsoft Excel

does either of you have a microsoft wireless mouse or keyboard? if so click on start menu go to the start search field- in the start search field type in msconfig press enter- click on the start up tab- now you will see start up item and manufactor. make the start up item list bigger so you can read it. next your going to scoll down tell you find something that says microsoft inteli and microsoft pro (or something to that effect. if you find microsoft inteli its probaly going to be the one below it.) uncheck both of the boxes. then click on apply and then restart the computer and see if pressing the volume keys open excel. if it still occurs. go back to msconfig- go back to start up item- at this point you will be looking for something that says hp quick launch buttons. uncheck the box click on apply then okay and then restart the computer. now when the computer restarts and you get to your icons, see if excel opens at that point while pressing the volume up and down keys. please post back if this doesn't work for either of you or just message me and I'll be more than happy to explain the process :-)

Re: Touch sensitive controls on dv7-1451nr automatically launch Microsoft Excel

JayJay, thank you for your reply. It worked! Yes, I do have a wireless Microsoft Intellimouse.  Do you know why it launches Excel? I hope it works for the other person that asked. It was a very frustrating situation. Could you please update your Customer Support colleagues so that they know how to solve the problem in case someone else calls? Thanks again!

Correct! when I unchecked both the microsoft inteli and microsoft pro from the start up tab and then rebooted the laptop... then the volume control stopped launching Excel

Re: Touch sensitive controls on dv7-1451nr automatically launch Microsoft Excel

I have posted another question I could not find an answer in the board... could you take a look at it: I have my HP Pavilion dv4 1220us connected to an external monitor Acer X203H using an Iomega Plug and Play KVM Model # GCS42UW6. When switching from the other laptop to the HP the monitor comes up immediately but then it switches on & off 3-4 times before it stabilizes and stays on. The KVM does not need drivers and I have updated HP drivers. Does anyone know what can be done to solve this problem?

Touch sensitive controls on dv7 automatically launch Excel using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

This worked. I use a Microsoft WirelessIntelli Mouse and a Microsoft Wireless keyboard.  I went into Windows7 Home Premium's msconfig Startup and unchecked only Microsoft IntelliType Pro, rebooted, and my touch controls no longer launch Microsoft Excel 2007 from either my newest dv7 laptop or my HP xb3000 dock.  I did NOT uncheck Microsoft Intellipoint.  Touch controls that USED to launch Microsoft Excel 2007 were the loudness (volume) sliders, the mute button, the power button, and the wireless on/off button.  Additionally the left and right mouse buttons on the dv7 laptop launched Microsoft Excel 2007.   The wireless mouse always worked okay though!

Thank you for posting that info DocDavid. I was wandering if I was going to have the same problem with Windows 7. Good to know that Jay's suggestion worked for you as well.
