Unable to install C5580 All in one

Running Vista Home Premium upgrade on Compaq Presario SR1230NX.  IE8 is installed.  Tried to install the software for my C5580 from the provided disc and keep getting this little bit of information:  HP Installer Re-Installation plug has stopped working.  If I kep trying to get something to happen, I get this message: Installer Recovery Plug-in has stopped.  I downloaded the software and tried to install it and got the same result.  I finally let Windows "find" my unit and it installed a generic Windows driver.  I can print and copy and do photos but cannot scan to the PC and HP Solution Center doesn't recognize the unit.  Can anyone help me out.

I think if you take a look at others having issues installing printer software from HP you'll see that most of the time the issue is a conflict with IE8 - remove that from your using Program Features to automatically roll back to IE7 and try installing your software again.

Thanks.  I did that on my own and it worked fine.  Couldn't find the site to pass on the info.  Too many things going on at the moment to find anything.
