HI
I got a Compaq V6533EF from my friend, and the OS is Vista Home Premium in Dutch (I dont know Dutch
)
about 2-3 days ago, the laptop installed some updates from Microsoft itself (22 updates) and now the problem is everytime I turn off the laptop I can not turn it on unless I have to remove the battery and the plug it again.
I dont know why? I dont know if there are some configuration settings in Power section of the control panel should help, but they are all in Dutch ![]()
Vista is really really (x1000 times) bad, I'm thinking of downgrading it to XP Pro.

Hello thaikinh,
I would recommend uninstalling the new updates to see if that fixes the battery issue then install them 1 at a time (find the culprit and let us know) ... haven't seen or heard of that before
I believe it is possible though to download the language packs from Microsoft, and that should change the WHOLE OS LANGUAGE .. (not 100% on that though .. Sorry if any of this info is incorrect)

Thanks Cormit for your quick reply!
I will try to use the system recovery to go back to the time before updates were installed (I've just found out this feature even it is in Dutch
)
I search for the Language pack for Vista (LIP), but they are only available for Ultimate and Enterprise!

I've just removed the battery, and using the power cord only, but the problem is still the same: If I want to turn the laptop on, I have to unplug the power cord first, and the plug it again, press the power button ![]()

before restoring the whole computer ... its a little weird but might work ..
a Hard Reset...
Remove the Battery and Power Cord (with computer off) hold power button down for 1 minute ..
plug in battery and power cord and try turning it on ...
Let us Know!

I've just reinstalled Vista (English version) and all the drivers from HP's website, now I can solve 1 problem: when I put the laptop to sleep mode from start menu button, it goes to sleep mode and I can press the power button to wake it up.
But the problem is still the for Shutdown options: When I choose shutdown, the computer turns off but the power button is still blinking, and there is no way to wake it up untill I have to remove the battery, unplug the power cord, re-plug one of them and then press the power button again.
The problem seems like to be related to the ACPI and Advanced Power Management, but unluckily, I can not find any information or configuration about ACPI or APM in BIOS setting up.

I am having the same exact problem on my Compaq F756NR laptop with Windows Vista. I just bought it at the beginning of January last year and so the 1 year warranty is up. Every time I leave the laptop still for like 15 minutes or so it goes into sleep mode I guess with a blinking blue light. I try to turn it back on but to no avail except my unplugging the power cord and removing the battery. Then I can press the power button again and it works fine, until I let the computer sit again. What's going on???
