Vista to xp-SP3 Presario CQ60 200 (Z?) VIDEO hurting most.

I simply despise Vista so Im hoping to convert my machine to XP - SP3.

The back of my computer says Cq60 200. The front says Presario CQ 60

This order confirmation says

Your customized Compaq Presario CQ60Z is estimated to be built by January 21, 2009. The delivery date is determined by the shipping method you chose during checkout.
Your customized PC includes:
- Compaq Presario CQ60Z
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
- AMD Athlon(TM) X2 Dual-Core Processor for Notebook PCs QL-62 (2.0GHz)
- 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP Brightview Display (1366x768)
- 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G
- 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- Microphone Only
- HP Color Matching Keyboard
- Wireless-G Card
- SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

Also possibly important, The message also mentions Product # as NK154AV

So Ive gotten quite far in the conversion. I can get most everything running, Except VIDEO, which refuses to co-operate with me for any reason, Ive tried tons of forum posts, and gotten nowhere, even with the methods that worked for many CQ50's and the CQ60-113.

Please help me, even if only for the video issue... (Note that Cq60 has an oddball resolution)

If CherylG link does not work, try to force install it using device manager.

However, if it does work, please post to help many other users :smileyhappy:

Good luck

Re: Vista to xp-SP3 Presario CQ60 200 (Z?) VIDEO hurting most.

Try these steps

NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G
Nvidia ForceWare X 179.28 for Windows XP/2K 32bit, here

Downloading from Nvidia site will give you the same version

3-step process to install:
1. Download driver, double click and select extract,
2. Download modded INF and replace original INF in extracted folder,
3. Install & reboot.

Note:

If you found errors (hopefully it has been fixed) when installing Nvidia 8200M G video driver, you need to force install the driver.

Pieter's INF forgot to put hardware ID for 8200M G,  see this post.

How to Force Install

Go to device manager and right click unknown vga device, update driver.
Dont have it auto search.
Select dont search, i will choose the driver.
Select Display adapters, choose the have disk button, navigate to the extracted folder and choose nvac.inf

It will give you a list of models, there are 2 geforce 8200's in the list. Click the first one in the list and hit next/ok or whatever.
It will give you the continue anyway option, proceed thru it.

Good luck

Re: Vista to xp-SP3 Presario CQ60 200 (Z?) VIDEO hurting most.

Wierd\great thing happened here. I tried this thing, and it failed completeley: I quote:

"There was a problem installing this hardware:
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M
An error occurred during the installation of this device.
The driver selected for this device does not support XP.
Click Finish to close the wizard."

I then tried it again out of frustation...

and accidentally installed it as an nVidia Aladdin TNT or some such crap, (which succeeded? what?), then I went to the  forum that is hyperlinked in the above help, scrolled down found another thing to try, 178.24 hosted by softpedia. (As described in post # 5 on this forum page: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20775 ). I did that, and it worked perfectly. Why is that wierd? I already tried the option from that post, and it failed outright, but this mess I created somehow worked.

Now before I label this as solved, I will cleanly Install XP to see if the Softpedia-hosted driver is a fix in itself, or if my success actually resulted from the prior botched install.

Re: Vista to xp-SP3 Presario CQ60 200 (Z?) VIDEO hurting most.

Final results are in!

Before anything, It may be important the Ive Installed MCP77MV Chipset 15.23 driver.

Basically what Rakhmad posted, except using the 178.24 release on softpedia instead. Link - http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/NVIDIA-GeForce-Release-17824-WHQL-XP32-Download-69155.html

Slightly different instructions for this pack. Run it once, up to where it fails to find the hardware, then reboot.

After that, go to Control Panel<Administrative tools<Computer management, Then find the Device manager which should have an Unknown VGA device listed somewhewre. From here, use Rakhmad's directions,

Go to device manager and right click unknown vga device, update driver.
Dont have it auto search.
Select dont search, i will choose the driver.
Select Display adapters, choose the have disk button, navigate to the extracted folder and choose nvac.inf (or nv4_disp.inf, depending on the driver)

It will give you a list of models, there are 2 geforce 8200's in the list. Click the first one in the list and hit next/ok or whatever.
It will give you the continue anyway option, proceed thru it.
