Will not boot

My dv9640us crashed last week while I was on vacation. I got an error message stating a kernal was corrupted and to insert recovery disc. I had to wait until I got home. It took two or three trys to get it to boot up with the recovery disc. After it loaded, it proceded to reformat and install Vista. I waited for it to go through all the stages, but in the end, I got a message that Windows did not install correctly and the computer shut down. I have not been able to get it to boot up since, with or without the recovery disc. Any suggestions?

Re: Will not boot

Sounds like your hard drive may be bad. Try running the hard drive test available in the BIOS.

Re: Will not boot

Thanks for the info, but I will not be able to check the hard drive via BIOS since the computer will not boot up at all. Your answer does confirm my suspicion that I have a hardware issue.

Re: Will not boot

So your computer does not turn on or turns on but nothing displays on the screen?

Re: Will not boot

Adamtech,

Thanks for your help. The computer turns on, but I only get an 1" line at the top of the display. I called support and I am sending it in under the extended warranty I purchased.
